I def like Shandalar over Arena just because it's so much faster paced, and I'm a huge fan of old-school mtg in particular. But we'll see! Def planning on doing some of the other videos I talked about too.

It can be a little tricky! Setting it to run in Windows compatibility mode usually fixes most issues. You can check the Shandalar subreddit for more specific tips and troubleshooting.

I can't distribute the game but at some point I'm gonna post my config file and deck files, and maybe do some deck tech videos and stuff like that.

Broken is having 4 Black Lotus in your deck

Can always go with the old 20x Black Lotus, 20x Channel, 20x Fireball deck

I've done that a few times, haha. In earlier versions of the game you could defeat Wizards by destroying enough of their minions but I'm not sure if that's still enabled. It would cut to a scene of the wizard getting hit with a ray of light when you won a duel and a red notch would appear on their staff, so if you destroyed their whole staff they'd be defeated same as if you beat their castle directly.

Most of the time the AI is actually pretty good. There's a few cards and mechanics it doesn't understand, like flanking for example. If I attack with a 2/2 with flanking, it'll block with a 2/2 to trade creatures even though that kills their creature and not mine. Some rules are updated, there's no mana burn for example. There are lots of bugs, sometimes I find cards that don't work like Tainted Remedy or Null Champion and I'll remove them with the .ini file. I think this goes up through Kaladesh, but it's not all-inclusive.

There are plenty of bug/features, comrade! Some cards are just playing different than they are supposed to, and the AI does not recognize important features such as creature lands as potential blockers. See for yourself

I'll give that a try next game. I was under the impression that they weren't coded correctly for that even though MTG rules allow it, but I could totally be wrong. Originally dual lands didn't have basic land types included as their card type, that came as part of a ruling in 2008 and Shandalar way predated that.

@@CaldeumGames terramorphic expanse & evolving wilds only work on basic land but the rest of the 1life fetch lands work on dual lands, can confirm

@@CaldeumGames see if you can get a copy of platinum angel next episode it's like my favorite card of all time and you could use the flying ability to push damage if there are a lot of bodies on the battlefield

I don't think think there is any major development underway at this time, other than people messing with the ini files and creating custom decks. There is a Shandalar Reddit community though.

Good call, can just use islands in this case since all the red cards are split red/blue.

Hmm I've heard people discuss trying to remove that limit, but it's hardcoded into Shandalar and I don't think anyone has yet found a solution.

Glad you're still watching! Yeah we still have tons of dungeons to do, just need to make sure the wizards don't take too many cities in the meantime or I'm gonna have to start attacking castles.

@@CaldeumGames did you notice when you were editing that the su_chan dungeon has no green cards allowed probably wouldn't have mattered though because the opponent played 3 1 drops and rancor

​​@@udhh2619Hmm as far as I can tell I've always been able to play green cards in there unless I missed something. That would be an interesting dungeon condition to set up though.

I'm gonna see if I can find Mind Twist. I think it's hidden in one of the dungeons.

Yeah I definitely want to use that hydra, trying to decide if I want to wait until I have better lands to feed that three green mana cost. Thought about Assassinate too, but at first glance it looked to me like a more expensive Death Stroke. More creature destruction wouldn't hurt though!

@@CaldeumGames I think they meant the synergy between the Heath and the Shaman. You can play the Windswept Heath turn 1 and find a Forest to play the Shaman, then on turn 2 you'll have the land in the graveyard to use Deathrite's ability, allowing you to play a 3 drop early. I've always wanted to try this game, but having a bigger card pool really makes it look sweet.

Oh nice! That combo did not occur to me. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a few Verdant Catacombs and run that. @@Ktjnn
