Unless the client brings in new money there is if at all only a marginal benefit for the MFD… A few exceptions are always in all industry who don’t really see value in the long term building of their business but a majority of MFD understand that the client is their golden egg laying goose, and they would be foolish to really do what this madam is suggesting that they do 😁

Direct plan introduced from 2013 only, so losses may be reduced 50% now. I dont think the person invested in mutual funds since 2001 is not facing any losses instead i feel some advisor saved him to invest him in mutual funds instead of tradtional fd's or Rd's. Also you didnt reveal the investor earnings till now from mutual funds instead you shared only losses that also not correctly. If investor already aware of direct mutual funds, he should have switched to it.
The returns since 2001 could have been double the amount it is today thats what they are saying. The longer the investment period the higher the loss through commission, compoundingly.
