It seems to me that in their solos the soloists are speaking different musical languages. The contrast is particularly strong between Coltrane (on the one hand) and Miles Davis and Red Garland (on the other hand).
Mom's memory of this song: blue coronet on Fulton st. The band was playing and I was there. The music came over me that I had to run up by the stage and dance to the music. The band enjoyed it, the singer not so much. After the set she came up and told Ma that she ruined it. Ma didnt care, she was just happy and having fun dancing to the music. Grateful to a Ma who exposed me to great music just like this and with great memories to boot.
