This channel is aimed at those who love the great outdoors. Having spent the past 30 years living and working alongside nature, I thought it would be nice to share some of my up and coming adventures. These include Bushcraft, fly fishing, nature, camping and hiking. Alongside this, there will be regular reviews of the gear and kit that I like to use and the latest gear that I buy to test out, in the hope that it makes it into my backpack or hunting kit.
Hi Timberbeartrail, the jacket is a Napapijri skidoo smock. The one I wear is about 25 years old, but they still make them. If you google Napapijri they have a decent range of jackets and smocks on their website 👍.
Hi Mark, do you have and do you use the Kelly kettle on a regular basis? I also like that you do this out in the woods, you know and never ever complain about the weather and how it affects your camera work and the reason I say that is because you know what that’s what we do we are in the weather and there’s nothing to apologize for and people don’t like it then they’ve never been camping with the reality of what we do
Two pieces of pipe clamped together with a bit thicker material such as washers, works well for bending into circles. You can use a mallet to round the ends to remove the flat parts.
What is the minimum height of the savotta how small will it get So that it’s still usable am using it to get groceries and also camping two very separate uses to get groceries on my daily walks and camping on my excursions
A good choice of items for the kit for navigation purposes. Not too much and not to little! The fresnel lens was interesting. Never thought of it. As you age seeing the details on a map is toughie! Thanks for the video!
That pack is so huge, it;s like a Santa Claus pack. go camping for 5 or 6 days, and bring toys for the children in the town, lol. It looks awesome, makes me want one. no cramming stuff into a smaller pack not being able to pack it all just easily. The no. 3 just looks like an awesome simple big pack.
I’m not an English man but I immediately realized he was speaking English… I can’t understand the comments below… By the way, it’s a cool axe, great review. Greetings from Italy
I recently broke a Kansbol, while doing some battening. The blade fractured about 2 cm inside the handle. The distributor replaced the knive, which is good as I was shocked at how easily the blade failed. They also advised that battening should only be carried out with a full tang knive.
I read a few comments that they break a bit easy. I did pound my Mora Pro C through a piece of dry beechwood, which it did really well. But that was just an incidence. How thick was the wood you were batoning, dry and hard? Or green soft..
Hi Mark - Do you still use the bag? Would you say that it is ok for summer usage as well or could I get too hot (well UK hot)? Thanks for the very good video.
Hi saxoncrow, I last used the bag a couple of months ago. I find it ideal for most of the year, but on hot nights I tend to sleep on top of the bag. It can be vented by opening the zip if it is too warm, but overall it is good for all times of the year. They also make a few lighter bags if you are looking for something with a lower temp rating.
I realise that I’m very late to the party, this video being 5 years old already, but I’ve only just found you. I was hooked as soon as you laid out some of your work on that sheet. They looked so lovely! Immediately formed a strong liking for the appearance of it all. Everything looks so beautifully made and somehow it had a kind of warmth to it - the complete opposite to a lot of machine made things which appear cold and soulless. Like the difference between homes made out of cob and thatch and those made out of plasterboard and plastic. Anyhow, I hope I don’t come across as some kind of whack job. I’m not sure I am explaining myself too well here. I feel inspired to have a go myself and you certainly made it sound as if it’s possible. The basic tools are affordable, which is something I was concerned about and you explained everything perfectly. I know that the prices will have changed. I haven’t finished watching this video yet and I’m not sure where to source affordable leather or whether I can find old leather jackets for practice. I will find out. I feel inspired to have a go myself now. I will subscribe as soon as I finish writing this. I just want to say thank you for making this video. I found you because “wood walker 1965” mentioned you in one of his videos. But I can’t get over how beautiful those things are that you made. The colour of the leather, which looks like chestnut and the perfect stitching. I’m looking forward to watching and learning more from you here. I want to pick up tips on how to get started myself. I will have to stop gushing now. Thanks very much for doing this video. All the best, Ian from East Anglia. 👍
That looks far nicer than mine. Mines got a sort of “pebble dashed” finish on the axe head, it makes it look as though it was cast rather than forged. It works well, but looks cheap.
i never use magnesium i use a lot of the other stuff you use and a lot of Nautel tinder's and my own waxed fire starters and fatwood as well great kits vary well thought out kits
Wait! What? “On my water bottle, I like to use one of these little fire rings..” Well, you let that “little,” gem almost slip by! Where can one buy one of these elusive, “little fire rings?” Because yours looks suspiciously homemade!
I just stumbled across your channel and have enjoyed a couple of your videos. I hope that you get the chance to make some more if you want to. Take care.
