Hi, I’m Wes with Barbour Boatworks. I’ve been working on and sailing boats my whole life and I love doing it. I hope you enjoy my content as I work on boats, engines, and also have fun sailing.
Most people don’t understand how competitive the Sunfish class really is. We have a senior class that has some of the top aging competitors that have raced every other class.
Hey Wes, really impressive to see you tackling these sailboat restorations!! Thanks for sharing you process here. The sailing videos are amazing too. Your partner did a great job. What a beautiful day on the water!! My husband just bought me a Howmar Hauler 8 last month to sail on small lakes here is Western Massachusetts. I have been sailing since I was a toddler, and have restored a few boats. Today was the first time I tried to sail our Hauler 8. It was a bit mystifying. Would you be up for a quick chat about sailing your Hauler? I’d love to understand where I should sit/stand etc? You made it look so easy! Hoping you can point me in the right direction here. Best! Julie
Wesley, I think I have ended up with this dinghy. I bought it from Vernice about 2 weeks ago to use with my sailboat. You did a good job restoring it. I am making a new centerboard/seat because the existing has further delaminated and is not salvageable at this point due to rot. The new one is yellow pine with white oak ends and the bottom has an aluminum wear strip. I will also add an aluminum plate on the inside at the transom to allow a more secure mounting of a seagull 40 outboard. Keep on with your channel. RU-vid needs good content like yours. Thanks, Mike P.S. Do you still have any of the blue paint? I need to touch up some scrapes.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I am very sorry I do not have any more of the blue paint. The paint type is Wet Edge largo blue from Jamestown Distributers @totalboat (www.jamestowndistributors.com/) Good idea with the aluminum plate! -Wesley
