I love handcrafting, particularly sewing, knitting, tatting, and crochet - not necessarily in that order. I also love history. Most of all, I love sharing my adventures in modern, vintage, and antique craft. I hope you'll join me!
Hi is there a pattern for the pink shirt/blouse you are wearing at 2:44 ? Forgive me but I just found your channel so I do apologise if this is a past make.
It'sa babydoll variation I made from an Edwardian blouse by Truly Victorian. If you check back through my other videos this year, you should be able to find it 😃
Great make Maire! Love the colour💜&🎶& your humour. Even though there was the knitting segway..uh squirrel segment, i realized i like the idea of the continuity of another project going in stages. As most of us have more than 3..5..10..? projects going in different stages! Sending 💗 & 👍 from Ontario.
Hi Jayne! I'm glad the continuing project(s) are a good idea! I've been trying to figure out how to work in my handcrafts with so many folks interested in the sewing side of things 😁 Hope you're having a perfectly temperate traditional Autumn with all the crunchy leaves! 💜
I know this is older, but I'm really happy for you that you got a grommet press! It looks pretty good. I have similar issues to you... finally took my measurements and was shocked to see that I was still an hourglass... Wasn't expecting that one. Sadly I'm not as squshy, but i think a properly fitted corset could make what i have naturally look bananas without much compression. If your squishy, an hourglass, no issues with some compression.... you could get crazy curves in a corset. Yay! Finding the right fit and the right style is tricky though. For me at least. The lacing gap is a bit off, it's too wide at your hip and some bowing at the bust. You should look into a corset pattern with gores or gussets. Or a ton of shaping. Clockwork fearie does custom patterns and one person showed the entire process including fitting.... i learned so much. Especially because she was plus size! Not a skinny mini. I think learning about the shaping of a corset has helped me figure out what things didn't work. But that shaping and fitting advice has helped so much even beyond corsetry. over. I want to make my own corset that is exactly what my medical mystery body needs. But I'm going to start small and maybe try some regency stays..... with some experiments to adjust for what i know are problem areas. Hope it goes well. Especially because i really need s bra lol. Just can't bring myself to buy one. But I'm going to use what i learned and mash it all up. Fingers crossed 🤞 But, you should definitely take a look at Clockwork fearie. Maybe she could help with the fit and patterning issues. She also posts a how to video where she sews the pattern... genius. No miscommunication lol. Then you get a consultation to see what the issues are and she sends you a totally new custom pattern. That sounds SO helpful. And embrace the black... could look very cool. Apparently fashion corsetry is in these days.
Had the grommet press for ages. I'm just glad to get some use from it! I bought it in the early 2000s for, wait for it, making fashion corsets for myself 😉 I'm more used to patterning my own underbusts - with the result of wild curves - so any sort of commercial pattern is going to fit me weird. Until I learn to pattern overbust...this isn't bad (It doesn't fit anymore, anyhow, due to shrinking out of the size). I've picked up at least one CF pattern - we'll see how it does! Not in the market for custom work at the moment though. Maybe down the line 😃
Would love to see some mushrooms or flowers on the collar. Think the sleeve embroidery idea is great. A frog closure would make that imto a great jacket.
The gauntlet was picked up, sewn, and looks terrific! The collar on the dress you made does look "easy," which of course, it's usually not. You did it beautifully. Nice work! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished cape, the yarn you've chosen are gorgeous colors.
Unfortunately, understitching rarely helps me. My facings are determined to flap away. (I'm familiar with Evelyn's work, and I assure you, I understitched!) 🙂
I normally crochet while watching you but today I'm having kitty acupuncture, she's 9 weeks old and I can't knit, crochet, sew, do housework or pee in peace. Please send help. ❤
I think that violent purple will make a wonderfully gothic cape creation. The dress looks amazing! The square neckline is so flattering. Give the kitties scritches for me.
I made my first BRF purchase on the 23rd September; the first item to hit that list was Butterick # 5662 Shirtwaist Dress (didn't know about #shirtwaistseptember). As this is a vintage pattern from the 50's, it has a few challenges for me to work on. PROS: Pattern: Complete. Printed tissue. CONS: MISSING Instructions. Size 16 (I am NOT a size 16) Also I have not worked from a sewing pattern in approximately 34 years; and I was not an even a moderate sewist then either. I think I'm going to need several warm-up projects of practice before I do anything and then lots of mock-ups. Please, wish me luck ;D
Good luck! Sorry to hear the sizing was wrong and instructions were missing! Were these things marked on the site? If not, I'm sure Stephanie or her assistant would be happy to look into it for you (and if it was sold as incomplete and the size was known...well, I'd suspect that's a "buyer beware" issue). Definitely work up to the vintage pattern! I've had good luck with Helen's Closet for beginner patterns 😃
I love the buttons! The dress looks lovely on you. I have a Jennifer Lauren Handmade Raine dress earmarked for dragon fabric... I might need to pull that out now.
I have 5 shirtwaist dresses that are too big BUT have wonderful belts. I've been adding holes to make them smaller so I don't have to deconstruct the dresses - yet!. I love me a shirtwaist dress.
I had a pale pink short sleeve shirt dress that made me feel beautiful. It didn't have a waist but it did have a fabric belt. I am thinking of recreating it. I have no idea what it was about that dress and I have no idea what happened to it, it may have gotten lost in the flood. That purple linen is lovely on you, I hope your shirt dress is as magical for you as mine was.
I’m a little over half finished crocheting a super simple poncho (4 big granny squares), and trying to decide if I want to make a knee length hooded cloak. An indoor cloak is just a bathrobe with pretensions, right? And it’s not weird to have a robe to wear when the weather is chilly…
I love the way it came out. Personally I'm not sure I would do the box pleats. I like a more floaty dress. I probably would've gone with a circle skirt myself. However I do love the way it looks on you. It isn't boxy or unflattering in any way. The buttons give it a whole Hocus Pocus vibe to me. As for the caplet, I think your going to need a couple of extra sacrificial skeins for the kitties Honestly I don't know how Knitpicks and We Crochet haven't picked you up as a sponsor yet. I've bough so many things from We Crochet becuase you mentioned them. Before you I didn't even know they existed.
This turned out great, even with questioning your bust adjustment. I struggle upsizing. Side note: Reboot is on Tubi, and i just watcjed a couple episodes from season two. 😁
I made a literal shirt dress for the @MyBucolicLife "Dark Academia" challenge. I started with the Harrison shirt pattern from Cashmerette. I’ve already made a couple variations of the shirt, so I knew the princess seams would fit me well, as would the waist and hips. I just extended the length to give me a true shirtdress without a waist seam. I took the basic sleeve piece from the pattern, cut it to 3/4 length, slashed it open to give me more volume, and made tiny bands to hold the gathering. Made the dress from a tiny plaid 100% wool, with 18 buttons up the front placket. The dress itself is pretty plain, intentionally, so that I could accessorize it with a lace-up vest and a necktie fashioned from lace and fabric scraps.
