Only heat the metal from the outside and do not heat it! Do not hold the flame to the oil seal!!!!! You can also use a hot air dryer, 80* Celsius is enough.
Thank you for posting this video. It really helps with organizing the procedure. My question is, did you cut down the screws from protruding through to the glass, or is that what the thicker wood strips are for?
I'm happy if I can help. The hardwood strips must: 1) Ensure there is a sufficiently large distance between screws and glass. 2) The lower strips must be so high that the pane sits snugly in the lower and upper pane frame. Otherwise the glass will slide down and water will seep in from above.
@@paulmillar4774 Hello Paul, I don't know how long your screws are. But remember the original screws back then were extremely short. They only protruded 1 - 2 threads into the frame. Your screws should be the same length.
hello there.where did you get your wooden strip ?any hardware store?it looks like the one from the corner is thin and those for the top and bottom are may be a 1/4 inch thick.thanks
I recently found that after I placed my 1957 MGA tranny back in my almost completely restored car I have no 1st, 2nd, and reverse. I called the person who rebuilt the tranny but won't help me even thought I told him I'm a disabled vietnam vet...so I had received the tranny back from him and found all the seals leaked so I removed the tail piece first and apparently I messed up the alignment of those gears I recently cut the tunnel along the side panel of the tranny but now don't know how to align them correctly. can you help me. thanks Gus
I manufacture a special ,fully machined steel socket to fit these octagon 1 61/64’’ AF nuts . Hand made by myself. They fit the nut perfectly and are machined with an external 1 1/4’’ AF hex . For the use of a standard socket fitted to a torque wrench socket .
Do not work off a cheap harbor freight jack, please add a Jack Stand! I hope I am wrong in my assumption and you do have another support on the car which is out of view. Thank you for showing your work it is very helpful. Stay Safe.
yes, making the hole bigger or what goes into it smaller is in this case will work. i had the same thought when i saw the torch put to use after the rubber seal was installed. but, to be fair, the host indicated that the heat had to be applied judiciously.
OMG, I would not have been able to do this without you posting this! My rear housing refused to come off, even after it was completely disconnected from the front housing. The gears and everything were pulling out along with the rear housing. Finally had to resort to my trusty Thor hammer to pound the shaft down while lifting the housing off. Thank you!
