Man I've watched like 15 vids of civic around 2000. All have the vertical knobs. I got a European model with the knobs horizontal. It's held in tight by 2 cables for the climate system

THIS IS HOW YOU ACCESS THOSE SCREWS ON THE LEFT! FOR ANYONE PISSED OFF AT THE UP-LOADER WHO DOESN'T WANT TO FIGURE IT OUT THEMSELVES, READ THIS. You have to unplug the hazard light connector, and unscrew the screws that hold in the climate control system onto the frame. Basically there are three screws, one on the top and two on the bottom of the climate control system (By climate control system I mean the beige box that's preventing you from accessing the screws for the radio). The two on the bottom are easy to get to if you have a short Phillips screw driver. The first one is connected to the front-bottom of the frame (the black face of the frame), and the second one is connected to the back bottom of the frame (the metal portion of the frame). Those ones are easy as fuck to get compared to the top one. Make sure you've unplugged all of the connections for the climate control and the hazard light connection or it will be impossible to get to the top screw, that one was a real mother fucker. There are three climate control connections you need to unplug, and then the hazard light connection which you have to pry off with a flat head. The hazard light connection has a little grey portion that is connected to a blue portion connected to a black portion. Pry the grey portion from the blue portion and you're good to go. Once those four connections are gone, it should be relatively easy to access that top screw. After removing the climate control system, you will see the remaining two screws for the radio.

The last 2 screws to remove radio on the left side are blocked by the wiring to the heating controls and hazard light switch. I cannot reach those screws.

Forgot to mention on the LEFT side of the Stereo the Climate Controls and and emergency wires would be in the way. It easily added on an additional hour and a half by the time I figuered out the way that worked best for me to remove the final two screws. For those of you with the same problem I simply got a wrench, I believe the size was 5/16 or the third smallest one if you have a set and began tediously unscrewing the screw. Although it took awhile I did not have to find a way to unplug the climate controls which was taking me even longer. Other than that, Great instructional video. P.S - Don't worry about getting those two final screws back in, your new radio will not need any of the screws that you unscrewed from the stock radio.

Additionally the black slot that came out easily for him will more than likely not come out easily for you. Or at least it did not for me seeing as it was screwed in to the unit above it. I wouldn't worry about taking it out in the beginning, didn't make a tremendous difference. All it did was allow ease in removing the head unit from the dash, it can easily be done using a flat head screwdriver.

One of my buddies installed a radio in for me, but now my turn signals, hazard lights aren't working. The fuse looks fine, but i don't know jack about the wires behind the radio so i'm not sure what to do. I'm not trying to shell out a buck fifty for a shop if it turns out its just a plug that isn't plugged in. Any tips?

Dude. .."fairly easy"?? That black slot at the very beginning of the video is impossible to take out. It comes out about a millimeter and en snags in something. Did you use a knife or something?

This kid has no idea what he is talking about. First he tells you to take two screw drivers and pry out the glove compartment below the radio, wrong its held in by two screws, and so goes all his incorrect instructions. BEWARE and run from this.

Idk if anyone has said this before, but you DO NOT have to remove the glove box. When u open the glove box, on each side there's just two little stops that hold it up. All u have to do is squeeze the sides on the glove box in a little bit so the stops are free, and then u can just let the glove box hang down and u will be able to unscrew that screw on the bottom right of the stereo.

My 1999 Civic DX just has a radio, it doesn't have a CD player built in or tape player and also the backlight doesn't work anymore on it so I can't see the clock or anything in the radio display. Might upgrade but then higher chance of a breakin

Correct if wrong, but don't you have to completely remove the climate control panel, to get to the screws on the right side of the radio? Also, how did you remove the wire harness from the back of the radio? I have been trying, but can't get it out, it's stuck in there good
