nice one Luke, i help out a friend from time to time remove racking from the back of vans and they can be pretty tricky to access bolts and remove especially when rusted in or spinning loose like you encountered. Ive recently got myself a red T5 LWB Panel van and have been contemplating recording my progress with it much like you are doing! all the best, keen to see how you get on :)
Hiya mate, thanks for the nice comment, yeah weirdly enough I've never had to take out racking before and now I have a new found appreciation for those who do it haha. That stuff is heavy! Yeah 100% do it, for me its mainly a diary to look back on to see what it use to look like and maybe help others who want to build their own!
Hiya mate, nah it was proper grim inside. Mainly just grime to be fair, but it was but after a good ol'polish it looked great. Its mainly the body work and the back which is the worse part, but nothing a good buff cant sort. But thanks for your view and comment, it all counts.
Why do people buy a T5, they are the worst base vehicle? I have the best a Vauxhall Vivaro 08, so no timing belt, a common rail super smooth diesel and 6 speed perfect box. I bit dirty which just needed a clean, £3,200 8 years ago and still doing fine. Here in Portugal V5s are cheaper than T4s and for good reason.
As a driver of x4 vivaro/trafic/primastar vans, (always had one as a fleet vehicle) i can tell you they are pretty terrible, the gearboxes are made of cheese, the suspension components constantly fail, ive lost count of how many ball joints and springs ive gone through, engines arent too bad but the wiring looms seem to decompose pretty fast. I have been lucky and only had the dreaded corroded injectors on my 1st van. Each to their own but my brother has had a 1.9 pd T5 from new witth 450k, it just goes on and on.
@@plumb-bob8597 The gearbox problem seems to apply to the Trafic, mine has been faultless in my 8 years of ownership. Perfectly matched to the torquey common rail diesel engine. Now 16 years 200k miles on I never want to sell it and 100% rust free, apart form the tow-bar which now needs painting. I have owned 3 T4's, the 1.9TD was unrefined but good the 5 cyclinder one of the worst I have ever driven, I have had 3 golfs too, also in decline as the years passed Mk2 okay, Mk3 awful, Mk5 a heap of junk with doors flying open.
