When I hit the starter button on my bike the gear extends out to meet the flywheel but the gear itself doesnt turn so it can't move the flywheel. I've pulled and tested the starter and still no spin whatsoever.
Thank you for this! My 2010 Raptor was doing the same and this helped a ton. FYI to Raptor owners. Don't do like I do and source a nut before checking your steering rack. I have a 2010 and i made the tool before working on it only to find mine has a smooth bore and a 19mm hex head inside. All I did was zip off the steering rack bolts so I could fit a ratchet and a 19mm socket. Loosened it up and fully removed to inspect. Ran the castle nut on and off to clear gunk. reinstalled the large threaded plug until it bottomed out and then installed the castle nut over it to lock it in place. Put blue lock tite on the rack bolts and ziped them back on for 2 ooga dooga's
Thanks I just purchased a new rack. Didnt really have any issues but took it in to stealer for alignment and they left boot slipped off or open and said the rack was loose and needed replacing. Ill try this first and sell or save the new rack. If the seal is leaking does it leak on the floor or on skid plate?
Is there a washer that’s supposed to go behind the bendix against the case? If so, do you have the part number? From the front cover, I have the washer, the spring, the other washer, the bendix, BUT now I’m hearing there’s supposed to be a washer behind that as well to protect the case. I just put a new bendix in and got the bad girl to turn over. She seems happy, about 130ish psi in each cylinder, I’ve got spark, but when bench testing the engine with the spark plugs out, it appears the bendix isn’t disengaging after it throws
@@Andidofightdyx I did! I can’t remember exactly off the top of my head. Let me look back and confirm, I think I called a shop in California and they were able to give me the part number. I think I mention it in this video or the next one in the series: Will the 1990 Yamaha Waverunner RUN? First Start - Four FREE Jetskis (Episode 2) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dw9MesIYitY.html
@@backcountrybuilds big help man thanks 🙏 I’m going to try to same on my old gas saver moped as-well been kick starting it for years and had the same issue on it
My non raptor 6.2 f150 has some slop on the drivers shaft. Thought it was my inner tie rod but it's the rack. I'm gonna give this a shot to see if I can adjust it out. Thanks
This was a super helpful vid answered a lot of questions I had about the rack. I just put a Lee power steering pump kit on my raptor cause I blew the stock pump up and a replacement but still felt like there was an issue after installing the Lee kit and after watching this I definitely know there is a problem in my rack. This video probably saved my $1500 investment in the Lee kit thank you for the content!
Thanks for the info. I made a tool that allowed me to adjust it without removing anything other than the skid plates. I just found a crown nut that went to the axle off my general xp 4 1000 that I saved when I upgraded to stronger cv axles. I just welded the nut (after grinding the crown part off) to a 10 inch long piece of 1" wide 1/4" flat bar. then bent the flat bar so it would work with the angle that the steering gear sits at. It did the trick and was easily able to make the adjustment very quickly. I highly suggest making a tool like i explained. I hope this helps
Nothing stock on the front or rear that's full blown long travel nice work! Rear coilovers way better then a pair of Deavers but Deavers definitely kill the stock 3 leaf
Thanks for the video! Im trying to trouble shoot my rack right now. I’m getting a shake feels fine in rough terrain but just cruising feels really odd.. Not really sure what’s going on but going to try this! I’m running aftermarket cooler and reservoir that was the very first mod I did to the truck and never a single issue till now.
i wish i could post a picture of the tool i made. i machined a grade 8 bolt to 27mm then faced off the thread to fit a 1/2" ratchet wrench. its a beautiful little tool that fits in my glove box
Great vid....I’m on my fourth (yes, fourth) steering rack in my ‘12 Raptor SCrew....two of them replaced under warranty. But I think it’s crazy that I’m going through racks every two years. One thing that I do notice after each rack replacement is that the steering feels overly tight, almost like the pump is working too hard...which may be contributing to early rack failure. I wonder if this piece needs to be backed off a bit from the factory setting.....
@ryan felish Great video, Did you or any of you have a clunking noise before you tightened this as you shook the steering wheel with the ignition off? Thanks guys
I just replaced the lower steering shaft on my 2014 F150 4x4. The lower u-joint had one axis that was froze up. My steering was sticky for a few weeks before I got to replace it. You could tell it was some sort of joint because it would stick, release, stick, release. I didnt notice this before replacing the shaft, but upon test driving after tightening up the bolts I now have a bit of play in the wheel. And like yours, there's a noise. I watched it with the hood open, and the shaft turns exactly with the wheel. So, no slack there. I'm thinking the noise is from slack in this box here and the noise is traveling up the steering shaft. As soon as I can get to it, I'll update for you.
Awesome Raptor! Great video as well. I am going to make the tool and make the adjustment. Dealer said the clunking and drift was my shocks needing a rebuild. Well I did that and $1,000 later it still clunks and drifts. I told the dealer I felt the clunk in the steering wheel. Thanks again for the great video!
