Theres a scene in that movie when they drive up and into the "Black Horse Motel" parking lot. That motel was right down the street from my house. Its gone now. It was a real "dive" motel for years, but it was the old classic motel style.
Thank you whoever brought me back to 1976. It was a wonderful experience. I will always cherish. Go Girls Hockey Team Champs! We won it All !!!!!! go Gymnasticts Team as well. We rocked!!!!😊

I discovered drum corps through the PBS broadcast in 1993. Being curious about The Songs for the Planet Earth trilogy is what got me into The Crossmen in the first place. Of course, then I saw 1992! I had to then go back and listen to cassette tapes of 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 DCI and I was hooked! In high school I wanted to march The Cadets, because they were close and they won... but I ended up going to UMass for college and became a part of the Hannum/McNutt years in The Crossmen Drumline #Boots. Perhaps it was my fate. I marched 1997 & 1998 which were some pretty good years for the corps. I marched with great people and we WORKED HARD! I saw a lot of scrappy folks become better than they had any business being and achieve things that we'll always take with us. When all else is gone... #Bones
It’s always nice to see this type of video…helps everyone understand that even the corps that didn’t make top 12 still worked their butts off, had fun, enjoyed the esprit d’corps, and made memories for a lifetime.
The genius of Bob Adair immortalized. I know there were many more, including his brother Don, but the Reilly "sound" (IMO) came from Bob. Classic stuff.
Thank you so much for sharing this AWESOME video!! My love for drum corps was through marching band. We went to Allentown PA, when I was in high school. Then later The Football Hall of Fame, in Canton Ohio, did many DCI events and in Massillon Ohio. My family: my Mom, my sister, my grandmother, my son and myself would go to these events. Yes I am a BLUUU fan❤! But the Cavaliers were one of my favorites. Loved their winter guard too. We would watch the DCI competitions on PBS also, I so miss that😢… Thanks again for sharing!!!
I was an extra in this movie. In the B&W scene at the Ebb Tide, where they put Wendel in the ambulance, I'm the shorter person in the light overcoat, standing under the umbrella, in the bottom left. This scene was filmed the week of my 13th birthday, May 13th, 1982. My mom and dad were also extras, they are the couple standing on the balcony above me. My brother was also an extra in the bar scenes at Tony Mart's. I hung out at Tony Mart's in back of the bar, just out of camera view for much of the scenes they filmed there. One night, I stayed there with my mom and dad until the early morning hours as they filmed multiple takes of the 'Tender Years' scene after Wendel dies. I snuck a cassette recorder in the bar and still have the audio recording of it. The camera operator would load camera mags at the bar where I was sitting. I watched him put the mag in a black bag and load/unload the film. He gave me a couple of strips of exposed film to take home as a souvenir. I also took a lot of pictures that week. I met the whole crew, even got a signed polaroid of me and Michael Pare'. Man, I could go on and on about my experiences that week - one of the best weeks of my life - I'll never forget it.
Not to quibble, but I believe that this is the Drum Corps Midwest retreat, not DCI Midwest. I love these old videos. And I love getting to hear Joe Bruno's voice again.
That's a lot more than 2 years ago today is May 21st 2024. The Riley Raiders were one of the best senior drawing people course in the country at one time period with one of the greatest drum lines ever John Dowling, is the person that developed back sticking still used today. He was a good friend of mine. He and I organized and started the American Spirit senior alumni, drum and bugle Corps in the Tampa Bay Florida area . Back in, 1992. May you rest in peace. Is the only person to win four national championships in the single day. Individual solo soprano, press quartet, individual snare drum, and drunk quartet nobody has ever done that since.
2000 was my first year marching DCI (Raiders- Div. II/III); we were leaving to head home from there and when they announced the tie, TV does not do justice how loud those boos were. People were PISSED, see the "No more ties" chant.
One of the all-time great Junior drum and bugle Corps, back when we still had Real Drum and bugle Corps. In my opinion DCI is, responsible for the demise of what was one of the greatest North American activities. DCI has turned the activity, into a marching band competition, superimposed on a three-ring circus. Former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles 1960 1961 from Brooklyn New york, also former member of the Long Island sun rises 1964 through 1968❤❤🎉
