Great if you have a table saw... horrible if you don't.
@CarlOlsonArt
@CarlOlsonArt Месяц назад
Why would you say it’s ‘horrible’? You don’t have to have a table saw. You can use a circular saw, a jig saw, or a hand saw. Or you can seek out the help of someone who has the tools… which is exactly what I did in this video. I didn’t own a table saw. Never ever once did I consider that ‘horrible.’ I encourage you to have a more positive outlook.

Other artists saying not to try and sell your work till your art is "ready" are either elitists or fools. How exactly do you know when your art is good enough to sell?... when someone is willing to buy it!! Far too many gatekeepers in the art world. Props to you sir, and thanks for the encouraging video!

I really loved this video! I was at a junk shop and I bought a Windsor Newton oil paint box full of paint in similar condition to yours. The info said it was from a Canadian woman who came to Australia with her paintbox in 1919! I contacted Windsor Newton. They only have records back to 1935. Couldn’t quite find the right one. I wish I could share a picture with you..

Hi Carl, good luck to you in the future and I look forward to seeing your plein air paintings again. Many people tend to over think plein air and get stressed about it, but fishermen have the right idea - just get out there and some days you'll catch fish, some days you won't, but either way you'll be reconnecting with nature and just enjoying the time spent there. Frank.

Henri is pronounced AWN-ree
@CarlOlsonArt
@CarlOlsonArt 3 месяца назад
No. Not in Robert Henri’s case. When he took on the alias Robert Henri when his family was running from and going into hiding from Cozad, Nebraska, he did not know the proper French pronunciation. Throughout his life he always pronounced it as Hen Rye.

Hi Carl- Thank you for all you have done! I am so sorry for the loss of your sister-in-law. May the Lord be near you and your wife during this time of loss. I also wanted to say - way to go- to your granddaughter! She's a natural! Thank you for the example of prioritizing your time. Only 1 thing is needed, right? Psalm 27 - "One thing will I seek..." At the end of the day, that's all that counts. I hope to meet you and your wife some day- maybe at the Booth!

Hi Carl thanks for thanks. If I could add one thing...I make my own headboard panels of half-inch thickness and after my first thin (not watery) warm application I leave it to dry in the sun before a second thicker coat. I've got painting on panels which have stood the vagaries of weather and have not warped. It's worth the while.

My heart aches for you listening to and watching your visible angst over your quandary. Your podcasts were the best on the whole internet. I take heart in the fact I have your recorded work to listen to over-and-over. Your style is special and endearing for the technical media and your expression of the love of painting and other artists. The siren lured you into her clutches and has provided to you a new muse - Colorado. Go forth without angst and drink your coffee in anticipation of doing what you know you must do. Regardless of where you are my spirit will be with you Carl. Thanking you a million times can not fully express how grateful I am for the "Artful Painter." Paint until bristles fall out, and then buy more brushes!

Well .. I think Craig knows my brother in law . My brother in law is also a rock climber and he’s used to teach and he’s also a geologist. His name is John Phiffer. I myself am an artist. Never done oil just watercolor and acrylic. I’m somewhat shy about oil paints but I need to jump right into it and see what happens. I am going to look into Craig’s book. Take care.

Carl, I discovered your podcast recently and it’s been a welcome audio companion while I work in my studio! It’s been SO inspiring to hear about other artists, especially some like me who have a different full time job (for now!) and have a family. It also inspired me to try a plein air session in 40 degree Minnesota and it’ll definitely not be my last! Carl, thank you!

Hi, Carl. That is a nice update. What about not doing that quality style interview podcast and just do a mindshift to a new chapter, something new. How about an easy iphone shot-over-the-shoulder of your painting ventures in Colorado. Wouldn't that be more liberating? You remove the pressure of the high standard interviews you set, but you don't lose contact with your followers, and you start a new light-footed over the shoulder venture of you painting and your grandkids maybe painting or hiking with you, or hanging out in the loft, and just make a new chapter, new season. A lot of artists go through life changes, life hits, and have a hard time re-tapping into their creative outlet. Life is real and sometimes it is hard. Hard sometimes suck the art out of you, out of all of us, but you still need that in your spirit. So consider it, pray about it, think about getting giddy about doing a new, less-responsible, less-obligated OTS peek into your progress and plein air and studio ventures. Regardless, I wish you all the best, Tasha Kidd P.S. Make sure you have good ventilation oubound in your new attic/loft studio.

However, I'm sure we ALL understand the necessity of putting aside the things that keep us from pursuing our dreams, no matter how much we also love those other things. I loved this interview. Very very nice and you do very well as an interviewer. My only gripe would be not to judge those of us who don't love to read. There are millions upon millions of hours of documentaries and audio lessons out there that many of us consume voraciously. Why? Because we're curious.

Great information from Michael Chamberlain especially the part about doing local shows before you approach a Gallery.. I did the same thing with the local libraries, City Hall type of things… a lot of work to put together 12+ paintings plus brochures plus signage, framing, varnishing , etc. Was a great experience once I got into a couple of galleries !

I’ve been here in Cartersville for 24 years and I’ve still not made it to the Booth museum. I should go. We got a car museum now too. Hope to get out to Colorado again. Loved my trip there and I totally understand the move. It is sad to leave a home you’ve been in for so long. But you’ll have and already have great memories in your new home.
