Just watched your video. Bother, keep doing what you are doing. I'm not Catholic, but I carry a rosery and a New Testamate Bible in my pockets. I do have a get home bag, but I did get a good idea about making a pocket get home kit. Keep up the good work.
Worth noting that broad sweeping assumptions are the opposite of the gray man style concept. If you're in a major city, college town, or tourist destination then bags are insanely common and wouldn't raise any alarms. That's where most Americans live and work, statistically. Plus, from the sound of it you're looking at more realistically a two day hike with breaks and not moving at night. IMHO, it's great to simplify as most carry too much. That said this sounds a little too simple and I'd be curious to know if you've actually tried testing this on even half the walk distance. Bad weather would make it even worse, or if you're in a place that experiences winter. Scaling up to even a fanny pack or 10L sling would probably help with more gear to help with hypothermia. Kudos for understanding flints aren't flints and actually ferrocericum 🤌🏻 Respect.
This kit was based on the Reconnaissance of my route home as I stated in the video. There are lots of points on the way home that offer lots of potential which is why my kit is small and limited.
I have a big bag in my car... maybe i should separate out the short term items into a smaller bag, within the more longterm one : ))) would make a quick exit much faster : ) Thank you for sharing the great info.
A great stealthy kit can be made using a soft-sided kids cartoon type lunch box. Very good size, can leave it in your car without fear of break in, and if you're carrying it you can always say my kid forgot his lunch I was taking it to him. Wont arouse any suspicions and can have more gear. I would add 2 large contractor trash bags, a few disposable glow sticks, a sun hat, dry pair of socks, snacks, electrolite drink packets, flattened water bottle or 2.
Awesome kit! I think there are lots of great ideas and the rosary is great too! Not many people have this added morale faith boost so kudos for sharing this. Someone said you can live 3 minutes with out air, 3 hours without shelter ( in extreme weather) 3 days without water and 3 weeks without food, but without faith why bother? We need faith in something greater than ourselves. So maybe we should add we can’t go 30 minutes in a disaster or maybe even life without hope/faith. Have a blessed day everyone 😊
Interesting concept. I know I carry to much but feel that this would be just a pinch to little, I am going to work on lessening my bag but dont thing i could feel comfortable going that low.
lol you found our fort we abandoned it after the cops got involved we are just a bunch of teens trying to have some fun in the woods but we are not the porch pirates that’s some other group of kids. We go back there every so often to check on it but it was a fun little hangout spot. 😂
Great kit. If I can make a suggestion, add a piece of aluminum foil. If there's snow on the ground or if the ground is wet from rain it will give you a dry area for starting a fire. As far as the rosary goes, I'm not religious myself, but if it's something that gives you comfort in a time of need, then it's a good piece of equipment.
Good thing I have only an hour walk from work. 😅 Good video, though I don't think a backpack is unusual to carry in an emergency situation. I rarely leave the house without one.
I think you should check out the company tortoise gear. They have a small ferro rod and waterproof tinder helix that screw on to Swiss army knife corkscrews. They also have a 1-liter water bag that has mylar backing on one side that allows you to disinfect water with solar uv. It takes a while, so id still carry the tablets but it's always good to have options. Also check out clipper mini lighters they are cheap like Bic but are refillable and the flint is replaceable.
Great video! In a shtf situation, I have to think mental health will be most important. I have a fidget (spinner) ring that has The Lord's Prayer printed on it. I also used Andrews straw tip for some items in the glove box tins.
Love the kit but there is 1 thing I would add personally, takes no space, is those trick birthday candles. the ones that relight. So, if its windy or wet out you don't have to keep wasting lighter fuel, light them and if blown out they relight fiercely for 90 seconds. been a life saver during my camping trips. Also, I'm not Catholic but I respect and honor the rosery. Divine assist or just peace of mind, both are important in an any SHTF situation.
@@tennesseeterri the trick candles that I bought was out of my local grocery store in the baking section. They didn't say relight nor trick on them had to read the back of the package. but after few minutes of reading, I found them. just got the Betty Crocker brand but store brands might exist. hope that helps
Small amount of bank line cordage would easily fit in that kit and could be indispensable. Also, in your recon trips you should bury some care packages along your route... food, bit of water, meds, shelter, etc.
Good simple well thought out “local” kit. I travel/drive with my job frequently 2-4 hours away and sometimes 10 hours away. Getting home for folks that travel like me is a much different thought process when you are 200 - 700 miles away.
