The average college-aged kid today explains guitar/bass parts using the modes (I.e. mixolydian, Dorian), or chord tones, etc. It's refreshing to hear one of the originals, describe his part as an "attitude"! I love listening to him. Not a ton of classic rock Native Indian/Canadians who are 1/2 Jewish around.

That was Robbie's guitar. Dylan used it, but Robbie owned it. It was originally black, but the paint started to come off. Same guitar Dylan played at the Academy of Music (1971). He had an SG but didn't feel comfortable playing it and switched guitars with Robbie. That's when Bob and this Telecaster reunited again.
yeah well the idea is to balance both concepts while you're playing. There's an interesting quote "you learn it all, then you forget it all" meaning just learn technique until you don't even think about it anymore. It becomes so accessible to you that you don't even think about how you're doing it and instead focus on where to do it.
Excellent point about "attitude." In the end, it's more about feel than it is about technique. Some players have great technique, but are kinda bland in terms of feel.
The way RR gained greater control (underhandedly) of The Band royalties and gave himself a larger cut, he was unapologetic about it, that turned me right off him. If you notice, since 2000 (thereabouts) many musicians have distanced themselves from him, specifically fmr comrades like Clapton, Young and Dylan. RR has lost a lot of credibility due to his own actions, to say the least. Btw, anybody can research the info above, it’s very well known.
I used to like this song, but it's been so abused and over-played in every jam or open mic I've ever attended, that I've come to loathe anyone who wants to play it.
@ObservantHistorian. That's a song I have been feebly trying to play. But I know what you mean. There's lots of songs that I feel the same way about. Especially when songs are licensed to commercials.
