Mt Shasta Ski Park is for everyone to enjoy outdoor sports. In the winter, skiing, snowboarding, tubing, and our backcountry cabin. In the summer, mountain biking, disc golf, and our scenic ride.
I came back as a season pass holder this year, first time skiing this lift and a few trails and wow what a disappointment. An amazing chairlift but accessing and getting to the lift to be met with quite frankly very terribly laid out ski runs, I will tell you, I will likely never venture to this lift. It was near dead the other day while the rest of the mountain had decent traffic. You will need to somehow fix the insanity of where you placed the bottom of the lift, being able to even ski back out and the sad uneven ski run terrain. Get a dozer up there in the summer and significantly improve those runs and make a trail down from coyote people can at least get to. This should be obvious after two years. Shocked its still this way.
Last year when skiing at the the Ski Park, I was so excited to ski the Gray Butte lift. Then, and only then did I find out what a royal pain in the ass it was to access the lift, and then get back to the existing ski area. Who's idea was it to have such a nice addition to the park, and yet have it be so difficult to get to and from. Something's gotta be done to address this.
Just heard about your plan for the statue. I say go for it, even though I’m not of the same belief regarding the statue, I applaud your decision and support your right to make it.
A nice addition to the overall experience. I am an ex excavator and think that grades were not really looked because there is no easy way to get to the new lift other than taking off skis and walking. And then a literal climb at the last remaining feet to get to the lift. How about carving some intermediate experience path from Coyote...
can tell ya right now, you’re probably gonna access it via the backside of coyote or via a run from where north saddle and sugar pine meet. Will most likely be all blues and a few blacks. The real cool stuff comes from the ability to hop off the lift and walk for 5 minutes to access some truly gnarly terrain
Glad to see the trees come down, giving a few people heart burn when in reality, it's a great firebreak and relief. New runs being added was not expected. Great news!
@EastCoast SuxDix Oh wow, that's an intense response, Mr East Coast. I'm sorry if big, wide runs scare you. The ski park does lessons, or you could hang on the magic carpet. Also, thanks for sharing but we probably don't need to know what you do in your spare time. Have a nice day, Mr. East Coast.
I'm interested in those Uphill/downhill skis! Good exercise. "Alpine Touring" skis. Hard to find. During the Summer, I was at Beaver Creek Ski Area ... went to the ski shop ... they sent me 20 minutes west on the freeway to a small shop that had only one pair. Ok, summer though.
