I would like to compose music for c64 games, I used goattracker but when the music I composed is transfered to the C64, the sound is different and often broken, so my question is: which program should I use to be sure that what I composed is the same in the game? Thank you!
What do you mean "broken"? Can you give me more details? My very first thought is that you composed the music in GoatTracker with the default settings and SID which is the 8580 model. And you C64 has the 6581 SID which can sound completely different, depending on the revision. Eg. combination of waveforms and the filter is different on 6581 and 8580, and the result might sound "broken".
@@StrayBoom thank you for the reply, no it's not like that..a friend of mine has the same problem, when we use Goat, the sound is different like dirty and becomes ugly..we tried different configuration, like you suggested, but no matter what the results are not nice..thats happen when the file is exported to .sid. I think there is something missing in translation..I will try to compose with Sidwizard, is a C64 program, so it should work..keep you posted..
@@StrayBoom Thank you a lot! I will try with SidWizard, as I watched some tutorials and I found it interesting, but if I need support, will contact you for sure..thank you again..actually, I'm working on a personal project where I write scenaries for c64 games included images to inspire developers to create new games...when I have more scripts I will send you the pdf, you might be interested...cheers!
You should talk to the game's developers on their channel, search for "The Wild Gentlemen" and you'll find them. Here it's only me, the composer of Chicken Police's soundtrack, you can have a listen to some music but I can't help you with requests regarding their games.
There's no extended version, it's just a couple of notes (reprising the main theme's melody). The asylum location in the game is just these couple of notes repeating and having some scary screams in the background.
hi, I tried to install chipsynth c64, but when I go to load vst3 or standalone or other formats, it gives me the same error. cannot find engine installation, please re-install or cannot find stop engine install directory, please re-install product. I tried on windows 7 and windows 10. doesn't it only run on a more modern Windows like Windows 11? let me know how I can fix it, I would love to play the old c64 sounds. From what I saw on RU-vid I think it's a nice emulation.
Hey, I'm sorry to hear it doesn't work on your computer. Unfortunately, I can't help you to fix the issue because I'm not part of the plugin development team. I suggest you should contact Ploque via their official channels: www.plogue.com/company/contactenglish.html And surely, this plugin is a great emulation of the good ol' C64's sounds, if not even the best VST ever.
@@StrayBoom thanks can you tell me if you use win 7 10 11 or mac? what extension did you use in the video, vst3 or standalone? there is also insidious emulation on reaktor. I would like to know how to convert the PWM into an automation... to recreate the identical sound thank you for answering me
I'm on WIn10 and on this specific recording it was either VST2 or VST3 version via in Reaper. To be honest, I mostly use a real C64 to compose SID music and I haven't checked anything else but only played a couple of tracks of mine to hear the quality of the emulation (it's pretty damn good). I'd believe there' automation possiblities of each synth parameter. In Reaper it's "Trim" button on the track's control buttons, and activate any of the exposed parameters There must be PWM as well, it's so essential I can't believe it can't be automated. I don't own InSIDious but it seems like a pretty cool SID emulation too.
@@StrayBoom you are using it in the video as a sid player... I tried on w7 and w10 it doesn't work. I use windows 7 installed normally and windows 10 in emulation... I'm missing some installed components! like visual c++ or framework or some driver that allows it to work.
Yeah, I still need to find the time to properly fiddle with the synth-part. I am out of ideas and don't know what the problem could be with your copy. I strongly suggest you to contact Plogue and raise it with them, potentially it's not only on your side but other users might have encountered the same issue.
I still come back to this like every month, wonderful sountrack! every song is not only brilliant but their names are amazing too, Not all cops are pigs blew my mind.Thank you for this <3
If you did this in Goat Tracker How did you deal with the samples ? ThcMOD ? I'm not exactly sure what ThcMOD is but if it allows you to use samples on a c64 I am going to have to look into it.
ThcMOD is a tool that can combine a 2 channel SID and a 3 channel MOD into one C64 executable file that runs on a stock C64. There's many limitation by the hardware of course, but this way the combination of SID synthesis and MOD samples gives a good and unique result. The tool is not public (as far as I know), I suggest you to contact THCM (aka. The Human Code Machine) on CSDb and ask him about it.
Sure thing, please have my permission. You can use this YT video and examine what's going on in the music. Or download the .sid file from csdb.dk/release/?id=180332 (SIDs used in this release) and play it with SidplayFP or any other player that is capable of emulating the sound of a Commodore64. Some of these players allow rendering the 3 channels into separate .wav files too.
