Really? I didn't know people hated it. I thought it was pretty good. I don't know if I'd say great, but pretty good. I liked how they didn't just make it Female Vs Male "girl-power-without-any-other-purpose" as they do with many mostly female movies. I thought everyone had a legit reason for doing what they were doing. And I enjoy "found family" movies.
How could you be unaware people hated it? It flopped so hard it left a crater. The internet was awash with stories of how much it sucked and how horribly it had done.....

I think it cleverly combines the two versions of Charlie (Willy Wonka) and the chocolate factory; the Oompa Loompa is from Gene Wilder's version, but Timothée Chalamet's potrayal of Willy Wonka is more like that played by Johnny Depp.
