I work as a drum tech for some of the greatest funk, jazz, rock and fusion drummers in the world. Many of these bands do "fly dates," where they fly to the gig and bring little besides guitars, basses and drumsticks (though some drummers seem to forget to bring even those), so they often use my drums and amps. As a musician, it's amazing and inspiring to see these incredibly talented folks making magic with my gear. Sometimes I'm working too hard to pay close attention to the drummers, so watching these videos later can provide much inspiration and and motivation to improve my playing. My thanks and appreciation go out to all the drummers who've let me put my video cameras on stage, especially my original DrumCam subjects, Russell Batiste and Adam Deitch.
Russel put in more time into playing music with his people than any other musician in New Orleans. Not cause He was any kinda saint or philanthropist, no Russel just had more energy to put towards a plain ass jam session than any rockstar in the last 30years. Good stuff Russel. I hope you get to finish all those side projects in the next life.
