Did the Grind about a month ago. I was not prepared for how hard it would be. I swear my half marathon was easier. The thin air was the toughest. My wife and I did it in pretty good time, and will certainly do it again next time in Vancouver now that I know what to expect.
Good job for moving out of the trail at the end, I’ve experienced many times where people just try to fix there bike or standing in the middle of the trail, it only causes more accidents
He was scoping the trail ahead to see what was ahead and what speed he needed. Went a bit wide; could happen to anyone. I once got so focused on the terrain right in front of me that I didn’t notice a big ass gator laying across the trail. Luckily the gator did a quick 180 and ran into the swamp but I missed the gator by a foot or 2 because I never looked ahead. Biggest woo I ever yelled. Always a balance of what’s ahead vs what’s right in front of you.
Sometimes you should stop talking and pay attention. I used to always see small memorials with flowers out on trails like that and I found out why, people go crazy out there.
So, I am no pro by any measure. I was doing a lot of Blue Velvet, Uno Moss, Little Alder, Blueberry Bathtub, Lower B Line, EZ Does It, Golden Triangle. I normally stick to the Fitzsimmons part of the mountain because that's what my capabilities allow. With the closures and only having the Creekside and Garbanzo lift available I was exploring some new blue lines slowly progressing. I decided to skip the second half of Uno Moss after a long day of good riding. Feeling confident I crossed the bridge like these guys to Midgard. Let me tell you this is definitely no beginner blue line, its berms are sharp and have huge elevation drops after, lots of rock and roots. Let's just say I had a nasty wipe out and it reminded me that you shouldn't get too confident out there. Don't be fooled, the GoPro affect makes everything seem smooth and small. Its not. Just my long run on story I wanted to share.
