Hello there Dr Johnson I really enjoyed listening to your interview with great interest with your patient Ralph who also sounded like a very intelligent and well spoken fellow. I have recently been diagnosed with a Posterior Vitreous Detachment plus a small hemorrhage in the vitreous sack. It has been two weeks since this diagnosis. I have been told that at this point there is nothing to do about it other than take it easy and wait for another month to see how the small bleed heals. Of course, like most people in this position, I am quite anxious to get back at it, but I don't want to take a chance of a retinal tear as I have been told. So light activities only for another month and then see from there where it goes. I am 70 in November, Have been super active all my life in terms of regularly hiking with a 35 lb pack up 2000' mountains 2- 3 times a week and flying my paraglider from there. I am hoping to continue until my last breath. At any rate, I do not want to lose my sight and am quite anxious but at the same time not being able to hike on a regular basis with the energy I am used to also has me very anxious. I "am" listening to the doc and taking it very easy. I have also been told that in time my brain will get used to the floaters . I am interested in any ideas that you may have. Cheers and thank you from British Columbia Canada.

I'm just a little bit worried if I have this PVD that you mention. And if I have it, what should I do to lessen and prevent it from getting worse? I'm BSIT student so I have to face conputers for a long time, can this complicate my PVD more?

Greetings! I would like to ask a question. I am 29 years old and have had partial PVD with large cobweb and blocky floaters in both eyes for almost a year now. Is it possible those can be treatable by laser treatment? Unfortunately, I think that they might be quite close to my retina though because I can see their details. Also, they are slowly getting fainter, is it possible they are moving anteriorly and can be later treated?

I have seen an increase in floaters in the past 3-4 weeks although I noticed a little 6 weeks ago. I’ve had my lasik surgery in December 2023 and everything was fine until the end of June. I’m 28 and I’m really scared if it’s a retinal tear or pvd.

What a great video. Kudos from an Aussie watching this and wishing you were here in Australia. You would probably be aware that there are a number of self-help groups concerning floaters on Facebook. I often contribute comments in one of the groups there. What gets me is the number of people who fervently believe that some sort of supplement or eating copious amounts of pineapple will help them. When you try to tell them that supplements will do nothing to "dissolve" floaters they get flustered and angry, etc. I know that supplements like lutein and bilberry are great for the general health of the eye (and I take these) but they aren't going to knock the floaters out of the ballpark. My greatest fear with laser treatment is a poorly aimed shot hitting the retina from doctor who is not as skilled as you are. I am terrified of the retina having a hole in it from such a laser strike. Can you comment about the incidence of such a thing and what happens when a mistake is made? Also, do you know any ophthalmologists who are very skilled in using lasers for floaters in Australia?

Thank you for this amazing explanation. You explained it very clearly - more clearly than my eye doctors. What's frustrating about PVD is that seniors or people in their late 40s or early 50s are used as the example of what is to follow, and how things are likely to progress in this age range when you get a PVD. I just turned 37, and was diagnosed with PVD and Weiss ring this past weekend. However, no doctor could clearly state how things are going to turn out a month from now or more cause I'm so young. I was told to call the floater a name and make friends with it. I wish there was more information for people in my age range. Just to know if this Weiss ring is going to disappear or not.

I started seeing flashes of white light about 3 months ago and thought it had gone away, but I was in Istanbul Turkiye last week and noticed a huge increase in floaters, small black flies in my vision, and what looked like falling ash and also a couple flashes so I went to see an ophthalmologist and after doing a thorough eye exam, he noted a pvd in my left eye and recommended laser treatment to weld vitreous hole or flap closed. I still have floaters but no flashes. Cost me $1200 usd for laser treatment that I possibly didn’t need but it was what the doctor recommended so that’s what we did. FYI, I’m 53 and male.

A Cricket ball hit on my right eye due to unawareness as other eye working I couldn't understand loss of vison in other eye so it delayed Maximum 4-5 years that eye started squint extropia then we went to a hospital doctors said it is a Rhegmatogenuous Retinal detachment and they did surgery and in the subsequent surgery they also removed silicone oil and catract was formed that surgery also done successfully and Vision restored to 20/100 Recently after 14 years again suddenly vision lost in the right eye due to same Rhegmatogenous Retinal detachment again retina detached so they did surgery and removed silicone oil within 1.5 month I don't know why again retina got detached so again RRD surgery done post this surgery Sudden IOP increase 54mmg and immediately visited Hospital they reduced it immediately and im thinking this iop increase is due silicone oil in the eye In the next visit retina doctor told me my optic nerve is weak and doctor is uncertain till we remove silicone oil she said But im thinking due to silicone oil it temporarily stopped optic nerve function Now vision in that eye is HM+ only After removing silicone oil Can i see improvement in vison? Any possibility for significant improvement??? Any other advancement to restore vison in this cases possiblity or hope of future? Address first question after silicone oil removal vison improvement possiblity as I told I have visited hospital immediately with 24-48 hours as pressure increase and managed IOP I'm using drops also now to control IOP it's under control As retina attached with silicone oil and my restricted to HM+ only I don't know what happened to optic nerve

I'm a 61 yr old woman, one month ago I had quite a few more floaters and a dark coloured long one entering my right eye from the side my nose is on. I rushed in to get medical help and they discovered two holes in the retina of my right eye.. They were treated with the laser used on the retina for retinal holes. However I still have many floaters in the right eye. Would it still be possible to receive your laser treatment for my floaters? Even though I have experienced retinal.holes in the past?

Hello doctor, this serious thread in my eye caused me to get itchy when I was 10 years old due to excessive cortisone use and it has not gone away despite using vitamins and having injections in my eyes for 4 years. I am now 15 years old and is there an eye surgery that is suitable for me? Will laser surgery be very harmful when used with natural lenses or is it worth the risk? I just went to see Dr Johnson last week and then 2 weeks previous. Had a total of seven treatments. Three in one eye and four in the other. I have to say that the treatment was very successful. My left eye is 90 to 95% better my right eye is 75% better and I will be returning at some future time to clean up those last few in my right eye. They're not all that bothersome so I'm not worried about it. My happiness level is the most important thing here. I am incredibly happy and very happy with results. I no longer see the constant web of garbage in my eyes. I highly recommend this procedure to those who are suffering as I was. Thank you Dr johnson!

Wow! What a great explanation! You really explained it very well (and I might say a little amusingly). I will still rush out tomorrow to my eye doc to see what gives with the flashes on the periphery of my 63 year old near sighted left eye. But I feel reassured. BTW, I thought this was a migraine at first, as I have optical migraines, but it clearly isn't - the flashes do not 'shape' or grow into a diamond-like arc blocking my field of vision (as in my migraines.) Plus, not hell headache. Could you do a piece on migraines? They scared the ---- out of me when they first started, when I was about 29 or so.

I've pretty good night vision. I just turned 80 and hope my vision will see me out! 🥸
