Quick story about how the British defeated the Nazis in the Battle of Britain.... Hitler planned to bomb the UK into submission, so he sent his cokehead lackey Goering's Luftwaffe to do the job. And sadly, as civilian casualties and destruction piled up, the Hun were winning the battle. But then a Miracle happened. Ol' Caterpillar Moustache Man, "Der Fϋhrer" ordered his pilots specifically Not to bomb London. But after the British bombed Berlin, he changed his mind about London. As Sir Edward Elgar-Smith-on-the-Thames-Rodgers-Matindale was preparing a posh Tea Party for London's well-to-do, a German Heinkel bomber appeared overhead, and dropped it's load of bombs JUST AS the Butler was bringing out the Tea. The subesquent explosions caused the Butler to drop the cistern containing the tea. Sir Edward Elgar-Smith-on-the-Thames-Rodgers-Martindale was so perturbed by this incident, that he got Winston on the phone demanding immediate retribution for this gross interruption of English Tea Time. Word of this atrocity quickly spread through the ranks of the RAF, giving His Majesty's Pilots the steel resolve to beat the Germans. And they @#$% sure did. Every Luftwaffe plane was shot out of the sky. And that's how the British won the Battle of Britain.

"CUIDICH' N' RIGH" is the MacKenzie Clan motto "Protect the King" That came from when the Clan chief of MacKenzie's saved the Scottish king from being gored by a deer. The King then awarded the MacKenzie clan the 12 pointed antler stags head, which very few were awarded as a way of thanks. God bless to all those who have fallen.

My grandfather was in the 51st and sent with the BEF in 1939 he was captured in St valery and marched to mabork Poland in horrific circumstances, where he was held in stalag xxb. I have recently researched his war records and have all his documents, including his capture card, which has a nazi stamp on it. I also have his original army book with his signature from when he signed on with the highlanders. I have information from his capture until he was held in Poland then after that I have nothing. If anyone can shed a light on how they were released or got home I would be so greatful. I have a photo of him with the serigapatm squad in 1939 if anyone is interested. I'm off to the memorial in August, if anyone can point me to any points of interest that would be great too. Great video by the way. Thanks for sharing.

My dad was in one of the units attached, at least in north africa. Went into Normandy on D+6, following the polish forces. Never said too much except having to drive over dead bodies in the roads, lanes and fields. He was also outside Belsen concentration camp... He never spoke other than the little he told me...

I had the privilege as a young Gordon Highlanders cadet to attend the 50th anniversary of the defence of St Valery by the 51st HD in the town itself, where we marched with veterans. Two veterans joined us on the bus to France. The tears they shed as they remembered their fallen comrades on that anniversary is something that has always stayed with me. All great men. Unsung heroes of a bleak time in our history.

@@Hangtough1944 spare a thought for my uncle Jim he was a locomotive driver with BR I joined BR in 1974 as a fireman in Glasgow I ended up working many shifts with him as fireman and driver many night shifts some of the story’s he told me I’ve never forgotten he used to wake up at night with sweat running of him he had a really bad time because he escaped he was put down a coal mine and eventually moved him from teschen to poznan were he escaped again and got to Berlin where he stayed with a German woman who was a member of the Nazis party he was arrested On a tram he could speak fluent German this is what saved him in the end as the Germans used him as a translator

My Grandfather and my Great uncle who had living memory of being Burnt out of their croft and shipped to Canada, my uncle still working in a remote logging camp in Manitoba, had already served in the Seaforth's in Scotland, Becoming a Piper and gained the rank of Corporal Saw action in the Bear war. He Traveled from remote Manitoba in the Fall of 1914, both now in their early to mid 30's They attested together in Kinston, Ontario for the 21st Batt'n under San Steele, this was a Canadian Highland battalion, made up of all nationalities, from eastern Ontario. Granddad was Blown up and buried in the bottom of the Trench twice in the same night by High explosive shells and a Gas Shell for company. He survived and served out the war becoming a Sergeant. My uncle went in as a Sergeant, with the Pipes, I think He deserves a medal at least for what he did, if not a V.Ca. All he got was mentioned in despatches, although hailed as a Hero in Kingston, Ontario. He was piping in the men when his leg was virtually shot off by a German Sniper, He, I guess? attended to his leg and then continued piping in his men under fire, until a Fellow 21ster, was wounded and under direct enemy fire, Seeing this he left his pipes and crawled out and retrieved the Man, to where he was sheltering and again took up the pipes!!! My father, Who never really got to have a dad due to the severity of his wounds, followed in his footsteps and joined the Boy Scouts that went over to France as messengers and baggage carriers at Gort's H.Q., when He was panicking and got ready to do his runner like all good English Lords do! Gort, simply stated when asked about the Boy's, "Give 'em a rifle and throw them in the Line" This is fact, but try and find any details of it. We are all Sutherland's and dam proud of it. However, after the Treatment we got under England's hands, what the fuck were we doing fighting and at best dying, for those Bastards, and their German Cunting King!!! I would rather have fled to Ireland and fought the English from there I don't understand how these men did what they did in every war since the Saxe Cobourgs took over, although I do under the lure of the false promises made by the English, at least in Canada some promises were Kept?

Heroes of St Valery, the Camerons the last regiment to wear the kilt in action, PM wee Donalda Leod escaping on foot to report back in Britain and to pipe the Seaforth back.over the Rhine into Germany! I was trained by a Seaforth piper (last PM of the London Irish) in the late 80ies, a dedicated QO Hlds fan myself, and was ever impressed by the sheer bravery and hardyness of the highland troops.... 😢

My grandfather, Peter Craig Reid was the farmer at nearby Larkfield Farm and rented the 'Gunsite Field' for his cattle between 1944 until he died in 1977. The young cattle used to sleep in the lower concrete building at night and grazed the 10 acre field during the day. There was a fresh water spring at the lower end of the field which might still be there. At least the field is preserved as a nature walk and not built over with housing.

The buildings are fenced off as the local (and from further afield) kids used to meet up at the ‘bombies’ as they call the area and it was notorious as a drinking den unfortunately. Not so bad in the last couple of years thankfully. I had an old aunt who died at 101 a couple of years back. As a young woman she remembered seeing a Luftwaffe plane flying down the line of Larkfield road which took it BELOW the line of sight of that gun emplacement, some flying from that pilot! She then went on to join the army and worked as part of a predictor team in London to try and bring down enemy aircraft. It was amazing to sit and listen to first hand accounts of the war and her life experience in general, there can’t be many left now who lived through it.
