I was six or seven years old and I saw a football game on TV at a friends house. I saw a guy they called Mean Joe Greene dominating on the field. Instant Steeler fan
Well, in the 8 years between 1976-1983 the Raiders won three Super Bowls. The most historically important was 1983. First, they denied my beloved Redskins of potentially the greatest single season team in NFL history. Secondly, it took the title of "team of the decade" from the Redskins and handed it to the 49ers. My point, hang in there and perservere.
If the Cowboys hadn't spent so much time screwing over their players, who knows how many more Super Bowls they might have won? Duane Thomas might have become the next Jim Brown if Landry knew how to deal with different personalities.
I was so fortunate to have grown up in the 70's, in Pittsburgh, watching the Steelers. Sundays were spent in my great grandmother's living room (with popcorn plastic covered couches), seeing their dynasty emerge and flourish. THAT'S the way to create a life-long Steeler fan😊
Something about that shot at 27:06 with the mighty Cotton Bowl hosting the NFL Championship Game. Such a different time for the league. I don't know if simpler is the right word. Pack and Cowboys played two titanic games in the span of a year that had a profound affect on NFL history. That shot has stuck with me . Not sure why.
I was lucky enough to have a Steeler fan for a dad. He had season tickets from the 50s through 1995, then passed them down to the us kids. I attended the majority of the ‘70s honestly games at theee rivers stadium. What an improvement from Pitt stadium! We sat up high but it was great for watching the flow of play, especially the passing game. I watched mike Wagner for most of those games. A hitter who rarely was out of position. And really surprising foot speed. Great great memories from my yout.
That's right folks... if Cowboys management had taken care of its players the right way (as did the rest of the NFL teams), who knows how great these early Cowboys teams would have been!! Not totally excusing my hero Duane Thomas for his actions-one never alienates oneself from your peers, because everyone's in the same boat... but to build a new stadium and not give credit to those that helped you make money to built it is unacceptable!
I was a redskin fan and I went to the last game that Miami lost before they went on their undefeated streak.....a 27-24 loss to the redskins in preseason lol
As a die hard patriots fan this season what the best thing thay has happened to the nfl. With out this season the Dolphins might not be in Miami and with out the Dolphins there might not be Dan Marino. And with out Dan Marino there might not be a rock rock stadium. And with no Rock Hard stadium there might not be a 1000 superbowls in miami
Most decorated team of all-time Staubach, Ditka, Wright, Alworth, Hayes, Lily Howley, Renfro, Harris all in the HOF. Thomas and Hill Rookie of the year. Too many All-Pros to mention.
Gene Upshaw is in the Hall of Fame but, Ernie Holmes always, Gene will say this too, beat his ass in the ground. In fact, many former STEELERS will say Ernie Holmes was just as good as Joe Greene.
I was 8 yrs old and remembered fondly watching this SB in my neighbors basement, with his dad. I read the Life magazine article prior to the SB and knew Dallas would win, a child's perspective not knowing the playoff history of the cowboys. Who knew the lineup would not stay in tact. They may have won again.
He didn't whine, he just knew and stated what Tex Schramm was up to and called him on it. As Roger S. and Bob L. stated, he never was late to practice and never missed team meetings, so the team captains had no complaints on his actions.
