Yes. The fans believed he was capable of on sight, mauling, mutilation and murder. The reputation of his ring persona was so strong the fans had a genuine honest to goodness fear of becoming his first known murder victim(s), they jumped out of the way as he ran towards them which gave him the space and time to B-line it toward the locker rooms without having to take a bump from a random fan! The Sheik, Killer Kowalski and Ox Baker are the indispensable top 3 of drawing heat in that order.

Fascinating! I have relatives in that general area (Stockbridge and Munith.) My mom and my grandmother both got their Masters degrees at the same time in the early 1950’s. Grandma had been the teacher for the one room school house before that.
