I appreciate this! I personally think that when a prophet is wrong about something, it doesn't make them not a prophet, it does make them a human. We need to stop defying humans. Let God be God. Let prophets be human. Follow the prophet as you pray for confirmation from the Spirit.
i really enjoyed that. thank you for those pictures. i shared them with my family. I do have a question ‘ there was a temple dedication in far west. what had that to do with the temple Lot in jackson county?’
I'm really interested in these videos, but I'm a bit disappointed that they don't provide more detail about the actual plates discussed. What did they say? Did they actually exist? Were they proven false? You showed a page with some characters, but didn't talk about them. I felt the same way about the Kinderhook video. I don't think I could actually explain much of anything about either plates after watching the videos. Not meaning to be negative, just want to provide some hopefully constructive criticism.
Fantastic job by Dirkmaat, laying out the major issues of this long-held assumption in a clear and articulate way. It truly is astounding that such a narrative would still continue despite long being discredited. I didn't know about congress mentioning this stuff, that's interesting as well. Thanks!
Fascinating discussion. Thank you! I have looked at all of the criticisms of the Book of Mormon very carefully, but one after the other, these fall short of explaining the divine origins of the Book of Mormon. More than that though, I know the Book of Mormon is true! Whenever I begin a serious study of the book, it has a powerful, positive influence on my heart and inspires me to grow closer to God.
I think Spaulding is no longer scalding. But _View of the Hebrews_ may still cause pause in the unprepared, the un-testimony’d, the Liberals-Sunstone’d, Dialogue’d, MHA’d. Here we are treated to good-sense commentary from the marvelous Gerrit Dirkmaat. I just love these hybrid videos from Interpreter-brief clips from _Witnesses_ plus scholar interviews. Brilliant. The episode lengths are just right, acting delightful, music superb, and of course informative narrative. But I’d love to see Dan Peterson do a cameo! :)
That is such an excellent analysis. We could see how Nephi and Lehi are also so much more connected to Moses in their experience, as they relate their visions and dreams, and how much the narrative is adjusted when we have it framed in Mormon's abridged account. But I love that conclusion, because of how it is able to so consicely bring these ideas together. Thank you for sharing this!
Dan and staff, I implore more: please make this marvelous film available in High Definition 1080p Blu Ray. DVD is an inferior format and its discs deteriorate in time-unlike Blu Ray’s. DVD has poor picture and sound, and Blu’s cost mere cents more. Even Hollywood knows how to honor its own work by giving it a more current, excellent format.
I am very much enjoying Gerrit’s comments. He’s not just knowledgeable, he’s very personable and easy to relate to. He also has a great sense of humor. Thank you so much for doing these videos; I am learning a lot, and my faith is strengthened.
I love Elder Bradshaw. I am the proud owner of his 2 volume work on the Old Testament. I am also fortunate to have served under the mentorship of President Virgil Parker in the Belgium Brussels mission.
I remember hearing of these people who were waiting for the Church before they could have the Priesthood. I remember hearing of others who also were waiting to receive the Priesthood. I was so happy to hear when they finally were able to have the Church and the Priesthood in their lives.
I have seen this cave from a video Ron Wyatt filmed back in early 90's. I believe this the actual tomb of Abraham. The Cave depicts all the details of the the original drawing of the tomb in another video Someone needs to preserve this place before it gets lost in history. The current building of the Patriarchs is not the real tomb. People need to be aware of this new cave found an filmed by Ron Wyatt.
Professor Peterson thank you for your time and effort in this video, watching your bare your testimony in other ventures started me back on my path back to the church me baptising my wife and being sealed as a family it's a dept I can never repay, however on the Egyptian theme I recently have discovered professor Flanders Petre's work and description also his theory on a core drill sample recovered off the pyramids if you're familiar with this would you be willing to venture a opinion , thank you for time
The plates may have been a catalyst (chemistry term) just like the Egyptian scrolls appear to be for the Book of Mormon and the Bible for the Book of Enoch/Moses seem to be.
Bro Peterson, PLEASE stop telling lies about the Book of Mormon translation. It was done by the Urim and Thummim. It says that 6 times in the Joseph Smith History in the Pearl of Great Price. The peep stone in a hat is a BIG LIE started in 1834 when Mormonism Unvailed [sic] was published by Eber D. Howe who published an anti-Mormon newspaper in Painesville, OH. To refute these lies, and help church members to understand early church history, Joseph and Oliver published 8 letters in 1834-35. See www.josephsmithpapers.org/.../history-1834-1836/48 These letters were published in all church newspapers and magazines up until 1899. Oliver declares twice that it was the Urim and Thummim. Pay attention to Letter VII. It clearly states that the final battles of the Nephite and Jaredite nations took place on the hill Ramah (Jaredite) and Cumorah (Nephite) near Palmyra and Manchester New York. There is only 1 hill and it is in western New York. The events of the Book of Mormon happened in America, not Mesoamerica. Look at D&C 17:1. It talks about the Urim and Thummim. The bogus peep stone is NOT mentioned--case closed! Joseph and Oliver always said it was the Urim and Thummim, never the peep stone! Look at the Wentworth Letter (1842). See www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/church-history-1-march-1842/1 Joseph declares that he used the Urim and Thummim to translate the Book of Mormon.
two first witnesses, Mary Whitmer & Mary Magdalene: both women, named Mary, both unofficial, both have experience supporting the divinity of Jesus, one the restoration of Jesus's gospel and the other the restoration of Jesus's body.
