And people for years keep telling these don't exist, in 70s highschool there were plenty of Novas around but my girlfriend's mother had the 68 ChevyII with the 4cyl and 3 on the tree! I tuned it up once and thought it was pretty neat!
Was the S-truck 5-speed you went with from a 6-cyl. or 4-cyl.? I ask because, depending on model-year, they were both T-5s but the 4-cyl got a 1"-16-splinne input-shaft that allowed use of the same clutch-assembly as the Quad4-powered FWD-cars, and the 6-cyl got the same as was used in V-8 F-bodies(Camaro & Firebird).
Hi, I have a1969 postal Jeep with this engine in it.....2.5L 4 cylinder, 153 cu. Can you help me out with the timing information for it. Thanks very much.
Nice build! I am currently building one for my '70 DJ5a postal Jeep, except I am using a later model Mercruiser 3.0l/140hp cylinder head on it. The Mercruiser head has totally different port layout with individual intake ports and flows much better. The downside is that I am forced to build custom intake and exhaust manifolds for it. The exhaust is easy- just re-flange and tweak a SBC driverside header, but the intake will be a complete custom job.
***** There used to be tons out there until bigger and better engines started being used in midget racing. I'm pretty sure Clifford still makes and sells an intake/header combo for the GM 153, but it is pretty expensive for what you get. I have also read a few times that there are propane-powered forklifts that used a GM industrial version of this engine. The propane intake/exhaust would be a good step forward, but to date I haven't even been able to find a pic of any of them, much less a place that sells them new or used. Also, remember that the 153 is basically 2/3rds of a Chevy 230 straight six, so nearly all of the parts interchange. I have seen a couple guys take the Clifford three-carb intake for the straight six cut the end off, weld a filler over the cut section and end up with a twin-carb intake for the four cylinder.
vk4akp What else would you like to know about the engine? It's a 153 ci 2.5 litre They where in Nova's from '62-'70 and used in Postal Jeeps for awhile after that.
LemonCoke1500 Performs great with the 5 speed. Doesn't have any issue pulling in 5th above 55 so don't have to do a lot of down shifting for highway passing.
Nice car, I love this engine! I build one with two carbs, msd ignition and custom headers, and it's running pretty well! /watch?v=z_zGr2J9jw8 The car it's a brazilian 78" Chevrolet Opala. Bye!!
