Hi Sherman Sarah ! Glad you came here on 2016. I'm visiting dandy for past 15years almost every week as my temple is down there. It was a bit deserted back then with few cafes and lots of Indian restaurant and stuffs and a pancake parlour near Dandenong park. Now, they have changed the landscape of the sidewalks, colourful lights throughout the roads, town hall with beautiful colour lights eliminating at night and the Dandenong plaza with everything. By the way, lot of restaurants have opened up and a big library building near station. Dandenong station and its area looks the same and No change at all since back then. Plan your another trip to here soon :)
I'm watching Dandenong since 2000. It was soo quiet with only the market and the plaza with few cafes. Very dry until 2014, they changed the entire landscape with lots of colourful lights and business boomed as many franchise opened up and now very very busy spot. Mostly people we can see there are Old retired people having coffee and chat and good time talking together, Indians , More Indians on weekends as there is Hi du Temple via Dandenong , Fiji and islanders
Dandenong had lot neon as I remember kid driving through dandy ham big pig classic Something worth waking up for to look at ,if we had got home and hadn't been woken up see fav pig I remember feeling ripped off ,when mother say tried wake ya ,nah no didn't always wake up look at the dandy ham sign 😜😴🤣😂😁😄talk of putting back up on what was old hardware shop foster st ,bit like vinager skipping girl think they finally did do it 20 years later ,,nah think dandy ham 🐖 never see neon
It's a shame Dandenong didn't get to become that next big city. It was booming in the 80s, big banks, Myer, Dandenong Hub, Capital centre. It just all went downhill mid to late 90s 😥
Yep your right ! it never got the funding to go the next step .. People back then always thought of outer suburban areas as country for some reason... Nowadays that perception has totally changed
I was born in dandy at the 3 bed hospital in 1948 , we lived in walker st , just downhill from the fire station & 2 doors from gleason,s blacksmith shop I loved watching him forging iron , dandy had a good & trusting community spirit those days , I,m shocked with what I,m finding on youtube ! their always was a rogue element but it was low key , I remember mum saying that we better start locking the door next wk when we go out because the circus is coming to town ! no cloths were left out overnight on the line around market day or if gypsies were spotted , fishing in the creek under the big gums was great , anyone got more stories ? John
