Small petrol tank on the USA Gold Stars, four gallon tank on the UK ones which was 1/2 gallon bigger than used on the other A abd B series bikes. Hence they look "different". Clubman's version had the close ratio RRT2 gearbox. My DB34 did 65mph in first 90 in second 105 in third and 115 in top. Upped it to DBD34 Clubman's spec. as 18 year olds are wont to do. The 1 1/2" GP carb. was fun, as you had to "blip" the throttle at traffic lights. If it stalled that meant folding up both footrests, folding out the kickstart, bring it up to compression then squeeze the decompression lever to go just over TDC, retard the ignition about 50% then leap on the kickstarter whilst balancing the 380 lb. of bike with the other foot. Then keep it running by blipping the throttle whilst folding in the kick starter, folding out both footrests, hooking first gear and taking off with lots of throttle and some clutch slip before the lights changed. That usually left all the cars stuck behind me on a red light, their ears blasted by the thumps of the exhaust.
That is inspirational! I pick my A65 up in a week and am now more excited than ever. I was fixated on a pre-unit Triumph, but the A65 has won me over. The more I found out about the A65 the more I liked them.
G’day and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 it was terrific how you restored this beautiful classic, thank you for filming the process that is very complexed . You chose the right music beautiful, If I ever get over again I would really like to come and see you I’m an old man with a lot of health problems and I can’t rid anymore and boy do I miss it! Kind regards John
I'm a Single Cylinder man - ex- Gold Star Rider - but even I can appreciate what Craig has done with this Thunderbolt. I have always been - and still am - a big fan of Chrome on vehicles. This one's the Dog's Bo11ocks. Russ. UK
Mikuni Carb came with the bike and make's the bike more rideable in traffic as well as holding Idle, However Im looking to Change over to a GP carb as soon as I find an acceptable one, Im told it is possible to get the GP carb to Idle with some modification, I will cross the bridge when I get to it.
would you be willing to do another one ? I have a nice 220se that I would like to have a convertible top installed on. I know it's a High grill and not as valuable. however I still want it done
Hello, I am currently building a BSA A10 Desert sled. I would also like to swap the half hub for a 190mm full hub. Can you perhaps tell me how far off center the hub needs to be inserted. I have to have the wheel spoked at a company and shipped, so I can't center it in the fork. Thanks for the answer. frank
wow superb video and top shelf restoration of a classic. Special thanks for taking her out on the road when all the bits were finally fettled and fitted. She sounded brilliant! Thanks for your effort. J.
Off course you should! Always. Bearings in the freezer and there you go…. Not doing so will damage the crankcase’s everytime you change a bearing a little, until the fitting becomes to wide and historic crankcases are maybe beyond repair….
@@motolab.EuropeanMotorcycles I’m not satisfied with ur reply because I myself am a diploma in automobile engineering and i can easily fit a bearing using only oil
@@SaileshkumarBobbili-e2t can be, it is what it is… we do restore old motorcycles by trade for more than 38 years…. Certified engineer and did recondition hundreds of old engines… We are talking about engines at least 60 years old, not new ones…. These old and specific GoldStar crankcases are irreplaceable, once broken….. Do what you want, any professional restorer will agree with me….
@@SaileshkumarBobbili-e2t It's a general accepted thing. Heat up the case and freeze the bearing. Drift it in on the outer race only. No damage and an easy job.
Mate, this is gorgeous. I've actually got a spare a65, I might make myself a cafe racer (and keep the original parts safe for later), although I love your high handlebars, looks so fun to ride!
