APM departed in 4:10, arrived in 13:21, so the travel time was 9m11s. Bus departed in 2:05, arrived in 12:13, so the travel time was 10m08s, and it would be at least tree times more if there was a traffic jam.
I think there are a number of points that would add nuance to this. 1. Transferring from lrt to mrt is faster. And more efficient during the peak period cuz of tapping in/out and then walking. 2. The mall is big so the journey could be a little different if you started near the MacDonald's. 3. LRT is <in theory> more reliable than busses. Sometimes the bus is late for all sorts of reasons but very rarely the LRT. Of course, BPLRT's reliability is lacklustre so this advantage is less significant. 4. If the LRT was renovated/built better from day 1, it would be able to travel faster. Considering that BP has become an MRT station, they could then offer direct CCK2BP services which would blow competition from busses out of the water. The gains would be even bigger if they actually bothered to move the lrt closer to the mrt but oh wells that's enough hypotheticals for a day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This video just proved that the LRT system is not that efficient as compared to bus. Unless the LRT train speed moves double the speed of the bus, I don't see the reason to take LRT. And each LRT station only skips one bus stop. Unless each LRT station skips 3 bus stops, then it will be worth it taking LRT.
lovely video, appreciate that someone in sg is actly doing this. i would have done a few of these if not because i was lazy to edit the videos. just some comments, your start and end points, as well as your walking speed don't really reflect well on this challenge. maybe start and end somewhere neutral where you don't show biasedness towards either the bus or the lrt? also the zero-waiting for 974 just feels like a kelong to me imo, may that be pure coincidence lmao. time to watch more of those from hong kong, you'll get what i mean. good job! :)
