Its so interesting seeing how much the trail has changed since I last rode it. I rode it a bunch in early 2000s and in Taylor valley area we would take the road instead of the trail to avoid the wooden fences because they weren't open all the time. Since back then the farm was actually in use still. Also 13:36 we actually had to stop at that road and wait to get across there wasnt a under road way back then. Makes it much safer for the kids to cross a busy road. Always hated that part of the ride.
Thanks for the comment. I have a gravel bike now which would make this ride more enjoyable than my full enduro bike. I hope to get out there and complete the entire ~34ish miles. Such a beautiful place to enjoy the outdoors.
At the Fonta Flora parking lot there is a map. I suggest looking up the trails on Trail Forks or Garmin. You can enter the trail system from a few spots.
Just checked in a Red Roof inn at Abington, going to ride it tomorrow. I might try the climb up and just take my time, i havent done much riding at all in the last 9 moths so i will take a break when i need to, 2,5 hour drive went so fast
Nice. I hope to get up there in May to ride the bike thing. I’m thinking about parking in Whitetop and doing the entire thing and back! I have a new gravel bike so it would be more suitable for this route.
Nice, is that the Kewaunee trail? That's the most difficult there especially that rocky section, i ended up about 20 feet down a ravine once in the rocky section, i think my wheel got stuck between 2 rocks and in a microsection i was rolling down a hill
Yes! We rode all the trails out there. I noticed some sketchy areas and being my first time out there (plus the snow) I rode a little slower in some spots. I was surprised that I didn’t end up in a ravine myself.
This is one of my favorite spots in the area. It's also the closest MTB trail from where I live. It's short (4 miles) but if you really want to push it, you can always do it again. There's plenty of spots that you can take shortcuts and bypasses if need be. Go for a ride there...you won't be disappointed! BTW, I love the drops at Care Bear Canyon. Don't let the name fool you though! It's intense!
Great way to get 35 miles in, how is the climb? I worked with a guy who told me about that place but he isn't there anymore. You could really fly down there with a nice hardtail and some XC tires
My kids tapped out after 17 miles. We rode from White Top to Damascus so there wasn’t much of any climb. I’d like to go back and ride the entire thing!
@@ThatHoneyBadger I will be getting my 2021 Niner AIR 9 RDO 3 star build hardtail Monday so maybe in a month after some upgrades it will be ready for trails like that.
@@ThatHoneyBadger My new sub 21 pound Niner hardtail is finally finished so after a few rides of tweaking in the seat adjustments, etc. i might check that place out. Once i sold my 2019 Instinct BC i have been bikeless close to a year so my legs get sore and baked QUICKLY, i might take the shuttle to the top until my endurance comes back, after that 17 will be a good workout and challenge. I have a set of BARELY ridden as in maybe 5 rides Yishun 1426 gram trail wheels, centerlock, 30 internal, DT 240 EXP with 54 upgrade, Sapim spokes and alloy nipples if you know anyone interested? I am replacing with 1225 gram Yishun XC wheels with the 180 EXP hubs. Built this bike for LOW weight, i was intending on getting a 2021 Instinct carbon 90 so the Yishun trail wheels were purchased for that but i changed directions.
I don’t recall all the color markers but everything is pretty crazy. Even the green. If your not used to down hill I’d ride with caution. You get fast really quick.
Nice trail, looks challenging and its always more difficult in real life. I have never been there but when i buy another bike will check it out. NC riding during the 95 degree temp. can be too much, i made it a rule to never ride when it was over 90! I went riding a few years ago at the Charlotte white water rafting area and it was 94, driving there with the AC on and then riding i was dead in barely 30 mins so then i made my rule. I had a 2019 RM Instinct BC for 2 years but sold it about 8 months ago, i just turned 66 and my cardio was really excellent for my age but been slacking off the last few months, non riders have no idea the stamina required even to ride an average blue trail or ride for 2-3 hours
Thanks! Haven’t been to Beech yet. I was going to go last Saturday but I’m out on an injury from my last right. (Should have recorded it) Beech is on my list though. Not sure I’ll be able to get out there before they close this year.
Nothing here is too tricky but you’d want to make sure you ride at a comfortable pace. All tricky spots can be walked or there is a ride around option. There is some climbing that may tough for a day one rider. Every Thursday (6pm)a small group rides here. All skill levels and most advanced riders will help out. Since the time is about to change that will most likely stop.
@@ThatHoneyBadger Thanks some of those turn looks fast. Maybe it was just camera but Its been years since I have trail rode. Any good gravel roads in Concord or Mount Pleasant or around that you may know? Thanks want to get back in slow to loose some LBS
@@bengarrido638 I don’t have a gravel bike but I’d recommend joining the Charlotte Mountain Bikers Group on FB. There are several people that ride road/gravel/trail so I’m sure people will recommend something. Trails are really how fast you can peddle. I need to finish that trail in one of my next videos. That day I got a flat and rode out the short cut.
