Curious about the cruising lifestyle? We've been sailing (3 monohulls & 1 catamaran) for over 26 years and love sharing our hard earned lessons and blissed out moments with the world. Nick is a meteorologist and creates all the music on our channel. Megan is a fabric welder and loves to transform her boats and homes. She also loves creating her own skincare and healthy meals. We're drawn back to the cruising lifestyle again and again because of the incredible people, places and creatures we encounter. It's all magical!
0:14 Up until september 2024, still no sailboat manufacturer nor refit specialist thinks of installing wind turbine to the mast. What could be the reasons? Mast is strong enough to take the load, freeing space at the same time.
We just got back from Japan and loved our 9 days there. Japanese people so polite, helpful and respectful, and food and drink so cheap. Cannot wait to got back.
cats are many times more practical. for the same size. so you can buy a much smaller cat than mono but still have more livable space. making most of the comparison of money and space not quite accurate.
How old are you both one of the last videos I seen you said you met as high cool or so but what threw me of was you said you guys grew up in the 80's I dought that I grew up in 80's and you both aren't my age I grad in 88. You guys dont look like your in mid 50's
I'm looking at a 46' Bahia Fountaine Pajot. Gorgeous boat. I love cats because they are faster and much more spacious. And this version of Fountaine Pajot is a true bluewater cat.
No mention of mechanical survey. I had the engines checked by pros during sea trials on three used boats this summer - one engine had a marker in the oil sample for an upcoming failure (diesel), and two engines had low compression in one or more cylinders (gas). I'm out $7000 for surveys and haulouts for inspections, but I'm not out $30K-50K (and two months on the hard) for a bad engine in my first season.
Are ya'll ok out there? Did you find a New Boat? Did Ya'll give up? Or are ya'll true land lovers now? It's ben over 2 months. Getting a bit Anxious. Ok ,until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Aloha and cheers 🍻
We did this 3x traveled were under contract twice, but it ended up not being the right time. We’re gonna wait two more years when our kids are out of the house and then we’re gonna try again. :)
5:45 yeah, i'm a complete ignorant of pretty much anything sailing related, I have heard that the "feeling" of sailing on a monohull is more intense, or more "real" than sailing on a catamaran, but in regards of tradition and ancestral or ancient sailors, the polinesians were crossing the pacific ocean on catamarans, milenia before the europeans left shallow waters
Amazing what a country looks like when they arent policing the world, or giving other countries billions a year, or giving military gear to other countries. A country that actually invests in their own country. Wow nice place.
In the last video, you guys made a vague reference to the fact that you were under contract for a "performance boat down south". Just wondering what happened. Your data collection is excellent and I agree with your decision to wait to buy. With 58% of catamarans selling for less than $300,000 over the past 4 years, I can see a market developing for less expensive, entry-level cats made by the legacy catamaran builders. If I see an ad for a new, inexpensive O'Kelly catamaran, you owe me lunch for the idea 😂😂
The data pricing on iridium puts me off. It is silly expensive, they price their service as though they still are the only option. Sure starlink isn't portable but considering you get 50 times the data for 1/4 of the price, I'd happily pay an extra $20 a month for a satellite phone.
i've spent a total of 2 hours on a hobie cat 16 as my sailing experience... that was enough, for me, to understand how you could get completely hooked on it. That feeling that you could go anywhere in the world... anyway... Thank you for the explanation and visual comparison, as someone who knows almost nothing about sailing and the nomenclature.
Can you share your thoughts on safety. The owner of Kraken sailing yachts shared that he worries that Cats can capsize and not be overturned and that they skid sideways down large waves. Making them a pour choice for blue ocean sailing. Can you share your thoughts on these issues? Thank so much! Brody
I did a 5 day charter on a Lagoon Sixty 5. I have to say it was amazing. We were in the Puget Sound, so not ocean sailing, but it was like a sailing luxury home. I am a newbie and working on getting my captains license because I have the sailing bug! The boat wasn't fast, it was heavy, but it was so stable, plowed through the waves and was as I said, such a plush experience. Can you address this a little more? I really appreciate your insights. Thanks!
I've been in this hole myself! On three boats not too dissimilar to what you seem to be looking at - although I'm a bit lower budget but we seem to have fairly similar approaches to things ....knowing well how the market seems to be, have had fairly cheeky offers accepted, only to arrive to find quite seriously misrepresented boats! 😢 Wondering though - if you've looked at any of the open series Nautitechs? I know you had a mention and interview of an older 47 I sailed an open 40 the other week and found is very pleasant - I'd imagine similar but maybe a little quicker than your Leopard ....would be very interested in your opinion if you got on one for a snoop - or even better a sail!
I don't have a boat yet. I'm just dreaming. I'm learning a profession that will allow me to work remotely, and I'm diving into the world of 'choosing the first boat' (it will most likely be a catamaran for the project). Thank you very much for this video. Even without experience, I came to the same conclusions. Wishing you success. I look forward to following your adventures.
you guys have looked at so many boats, which ones do you think would make the best solar sailor? I really enjoyed the Main Cat you once looked at. But there are so many other awesome boats.
Greetings, I'm looking for a 7-15 year old Catamaran Power Boat or Hybrid, or Sail, 44 to 55 ft, that I can convert to a solar electric cruiser. Ideally with a very large bimini.. What do you think will be the best way to find some boats of this age, that have older motors, and worn out rigging. Do you guys just search the internet? or have you got an army of sails people looking for you? Please advise.
Are ya'll ok out there? Haven't seen anything in a long time. I hope all is ok and ya'll have some News on the boat 🚢 frunt. Until next time, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Aloha and cheers 🍻
Yeah, after seeing whats happened to SV LV II and to all the Lagoons and stuff I'm going aluminium. Heard some crazy storys about carbon masts getting hit by lightning. If the lightning can penetrate the epoxy it literally eats the carbon to dust leaving just a "snake skin" of epoxy.
was kinda in the same "boat " when looking for the perfect boat for me and my Fam . in my case ( and i am def not you typical sailor ....aka have no problem power sailing ) the Sunreef SV ECO is the perfect boat ! .....sail when the wind is right or free solar power sailing in the Caribbean, all in comfort is all we wana do.
