Might I be so bold to suggest a small rechargeable power bank that fits your mobile device as most phones only seem to last 24 hours. Great concise video my friend 👍
Don't believe the rut or doe or buck makes a difference. I think you age it and cook it right it doesn't make that much of a difference. Shot a stinky old rutting buck and he tasted just as good as a 100lb doe.
Carry most of my gear in a small backpack..that include most of that which you listed. Plus extra clothes gloves and socks..easy to carry on my back leaving my arms free to carry my rifle.
0h yeah, the "good old days" hunting in the 1960's in Pennsylvania ! A gun A handful of bullets A 25' hank of window sash cord Some kind of knife Barn coat Barn gloves Fluorescent orange knit cap Fluorescent orange vest (also makes a good signal flag) Northerners insulated waterproof boots Thermos of coffee 4 Snickers bars
CONTINUED : A durable poncho for rain or simplest shelter A "Zippo" lighter A spare car key in a safe alternative spot (my Beagle carried a spare key on his collar) Don't forget your compass, know how to use it We used to carry a simple "Ray-0"vac", 2 D- Cell flashlight from the 5 & dime store Those were the days ! Today I carry a very light weight Ameristep "Lil' Gunner"portable blind fo concealment/odor control, , hunting inclement weather and an emergency shelter. Just enough room for one man on a folding stool, its tight !
New hunter here and your channel has definately been a useful source for understanding the basics. Wish I had friends and family to teach me but was raised by liberals with nothing but beta male influences so I gotta learn how to man up on my own.
Not really. Depends a bit on where you hunt but most people would probably say that Binos are essential, arguably more so than the rifle - you'll need them a lot more than the gun. All the time in fact. Where I am (alpine/mountains) guys carry top of the line Swarovski or Zeiss binos (8x, few 10x) and 60mm/80mm class spotting scopes. I know one guy who only uses a magnification range finder (he only has one eye though). If I started again I'd give a serious consideration to having only one - the new Swarovski ATC 17-40. Not ideal, but size/weight and the flexibility is nice. You should probably go with only binos if you have to. Down side is you have to walk, a lot, to get close so you can ID the animal and see if it's legal. Spotters let you clear an animal at much larger distances so you have to walk much less. As they say: buy the best you can afford. I run the new Zeiss SFL 8X40.
Bishop, Ca has a Christmas parade every year. Some years ago a guy was in the parade with a decorated wagon pulled by 4 mules. He had strapped antlers onto the mules heads. Somewhere along the parade route a guy on the sidewalk hollars 'What the hell is that?' And the drover hollers back 'What? Aint you ever seen mule deer before"? !
Drag a deer 5miles.. damn gives you some perspective on the work people used to do to eat dinner. I’m looking to start hunting in australia but my parents are near you probably 😂 luckily no bears here but gaining a license is crazy hard.
Here’s what OpenAI’s fancy new ChatGPT robot had to say about this question: “In general, older deer, known as bucks, tend to have a stronger flavor compared to younger deer, known as does.” That pretty much settles the debate. Microsoft invested $10 billion in this bad boy, clearly Bill Gates knows what he’s doing.
The parameters I asked the AI which seemed to confuse it were as follows: I queried if its database contains any reports for a more detectable flavor difference between adult males vs adult females than between non-adult males vs. non-adult females. I also told it to control for the high likelihood that the male vs. female flavor difference in the adult sub-population is far less than adult vs non-adult flavor difference in the population at large (regardless of sex). Curious on anyone’s thoughts or experiences on any of these direct and relative comparisons (as well as any flavor preferences, where differences exist).
EXCELLENT VIDEO !!!!! You gave such Wonderful and Fantastic advice on when to Hunt when other Videos say only to Hunt if certain thing s are present. I will Always Watch your Videos !!!!!
I’ve heard a lot of people say bear taste is going to be good or bad based on what they eat. Im wondering how much this applies to deer because of all the dear I’ve eaten they were all exactly the same except for a mature doe that when gutted had alot of yellow tinge in her fat. I was told this was from gorging on corn. She tasted slightly less good than any other deer I’ve had (approx 20).
