The official channel of Bonsai artist Adam McCallion! Here you will find "how to" and tutorial videos on everything BONSAI! From repotting, pruning, wiring and styling.

Hey! My favourite species to Bonsai are - Japanese Maple, Juniper and Pine. Though I don't shy away from other species as I believe any tree can be made into a Bonsai.

I'm not understanding the purpose of double air layering. Seems like the same thing if you just did air pruning.

Hi, I am new to bonsai care. I received one as a gift , I believe it is a juniper and everything I read says it cannot grow indoors. My question is ...can I put it in a bonsai pot and place it outside, bringing it in if temps go below freezing? Thank you

Thank you for your informative videos! I need your kind help....My bonsai ficus had only growth on one branch for 3 yrs now, but now even that is gone bad :( I think I overwatered & there seems to be root rot (one of the root is soft to touch) I changed the soil already & now I have not watered it for over a week, all the leaves turned yellow-brown (burnt like) and fell off, even the baby leaves shed, is he dying? what should I do? 😢even after not watering for a week the soil is not completely dry inside but not wet, hope these details can help see the situation, if you could please help me help my baby :'(

This is such an amazing video. I have 2 normal little kojos and have just bought 2 x 9cm pot kojos that I'd love a go at trying to bonsai. Can I use a basic compost and perlite? My budget is tiny, but I'm very excited. Your video is absolutely amazing! I think I could have a new hobby at the age of 50. Thanks so much for sharing

I just bought a Mugo, and I am fearful of trying to repot/do anything severe to the roots, given the time of year. I suppose I could just reveal the nebari and do a clean-up (ex: 5m to 7m in your video), right? Or should I just leave her alone until next year?

Hey! sorry to hear this! The first step is to carefully assess its current condition. Check the needles for any discoloration, such as yellowing or browning, which could indicate stress from over or under-watering, poor soil drainage, or root issues. Inspect the tree closely for any signs of pests like scale or spider mites, and look for resin build-up or unusual swelling that might suggest fungal infections or physical damage. It's crucial to evaluate the roots by gently removing the tree from its pot-if the roots appear dark and mushy, this could indicate root rot, which requires immediate action such as repotting in well-draining soil and trimming away affected roots. Improve air circulation around the foliage, avoid overwatering, and place the tree in a bright, airy location to support recovery. I hope this helps!

In general, you don't want S-Curves in Bonsai. It always looks manmade or like a ficus from a garden center. Short, mass-market bonsai. And a good advice here, put at least one trunk wire to the bottom to the pot, not a little bit. you risk to tear apart the roots or uproot it while bending. other than that, cedars are well made for beginners. planning to buy about 20 in spring to develop a group/rock planting. keep it up!

Beautiful video showing the comradery of the UK bonsai growers' community. I must admit, I choked up a few times during the video but it was so satisfying seeing Tony enjoying himself and being the recipient of such generosity from all you guys and gals. Tony will definitely be missed but that idea of doing follow ups on his trees, wherever they ended up, is brilliant. Thank you again, and greetings from Tuscany. Cheers. Carlos.
