I spoke to a guy at a detecting meet and he couldn't do it - however he sort of knew why. When I asked him what he did for a living and if he had a claim to fame he said that he was a carpenter but his claim to fame was applying gold leaf to Freddy Mercuries death bed. Anyway... he told me that he had no static and it was hard for him to apply gold leaf without charging a brush up first that creates static and this is why he believed he could not dowse. So my advice to you is to charge yourself up - maybe get a nylon track suit! or some balloons and rub them on your head! then try dowsing with some L rods.
