Is there any medicinal value to this? Couldn't you change the pH to kill it? Baking soda etc

I really didnt get the point...where u stated that an earthworm is creating an issue on the soil.....that totally dosent make sense ..in fact they poop more fertile soil called vermicompost...

Hi Ashis! Thanks for your comment. Earthworms can indeed create vermicompost, which is wonderful in some cases. Unfortunately, many to all of the native North American earthworms were wiped out in the last ice age--our current earthworms have been introduced from other parts of the world! This may seem like a good thing, but many of these worms behave differently from the worms our plants evolved with. This is probably what Micah was referring to. For example, some night crawlers pull detritus down into deep tunnels, which removes that nutrients from the top duff layer. Soil science is a complex and fascinating world!

Nope it's not the barbels or whiskers that sting you. It's the sharp fins that can cut you & sometimes cause a stinging feeling along with some swelling. They don't actually sting like a bee or wasp.

I have a question .....I have read about pruning to control. I am on 3 parcels of land between my sisters and myself and this black knot stuff is on the trees throughout....it's beyond pruning as I see more every time I am out about in the woods. Is this going to kill off all the trees or will it go away by itself eventually....or is it here to stay forever? I am in upstate NY near Canada.....I don't think the sub zero weather we get occasionally has any effect on it.
