New Zealand's largest producer of film and television. Titles include: Shortland Street, Westside, Step Dave, The Brokenwood Mysteries, Outrageous Fortune, Nothing Trivial, The Almighty Johnsons, Go Girls, Whale Rider, Sione's Wedding and Sione's 2: Unfinished Business, My Wedding and Other Secrets, Maddigan's Quest and much more!
How could a film made in 2010 be so corny and shallow. Is it supposed to be satire? But cunning to save money by nor using lighting - and brilliant' scintillating script: at lunch at lunchtime! (Not like brilliant "hitch Hikers Guide to the Universe" where folk are completely out to lunch! Didn't watch any more of the spy drivel.
Spies and Lies (TV Movie 2010) 7.5 Based on the book: 'The Plot to Subvert Wartime New Zealand' by Hugh Price A true story. 1942. New Zealand is at war. Times are desperate. The Japanese invasion seems imminent. At this perilous moment, confidence trickster Syd Ross completes his sentence and is released from Waikeria Prison. He makes a phone call and finds himself in front of Prime Minister Fraser. Syd tells a tale of sabotage and assassination, of a Nazi plot to take over New Zealand. Fraser contacts Major Folkes, head of the Security Intelligence Bureau. Folkes seizes on Ross' story, gives Ross a new identity, a car, money and accommodation at The Grand in Rotorua. Ross is to gather evidence on the 'Nazi plot'. As he does so, Folkes puts together a secret dossier, embroidering Ross' lies and building a picture of a country in extreme danger. SPIES AND LIES is a ripping yarn about conspiracy, incompetence, and an extraordinary hoax that challenged the highest levels of New Zealand government. - imdb
I grew up there post war and even visited Rotorua as a child. It was lovely to see how Ross charmed everyone with his con except for the down to earth coppers who were used to dealing with con artists. A charming little film.
Bwah.... Funniest True Crime Story I ever heard of from WWII era. Had to watch this a couple of times as I just couldn't believe how gullible these people were. A great Kiwi story ☆☆☆☆☆
Just came across this a couple of weeks ago, and I watched it last, it's quirky funny, NOT THE NINE O'CLOCK NEWS,OR THE UK,THE OFFICE, I was in stitches when U first get to hear the general, the head of intelligence voice, all I could think of was a northern England miner's union rep from the 80s brilliant 👍👍👍

This is an issue with the uploaded file. The original didn’t look like this. I’ve contacted South Pacific Pictures to see if they can address the issue.
