I moved to The Netherlands with my husband in 2009 to work as international criminal lawyers at one of the tribunals in The Hague. Eventually, I became a RU-vid-from-home mom (but hubby still works in international criminal law).
I make videos about life in The Netherlands as a foreigner. The goal of my videos is to teach viewers how something works in NL; to share my observations of Dutch life and culture and to get to know my home country. The Dutch were - and are - traditionally used to working 9-5. So that means you can be home at 6. And eating at the same table with the whole family is important. Traditions have a long life in The Netherlands.

You are showing me parts of my country I missed when I still lived in the city of my birth, Amsterdam, that I left over 40 years ago and where I lived the first 40 years of my life. The Dutch are probably more inventive. We just solve the problems: put toiletpaper on the toiletseat, the "tankdop" (Sorry voor the Dutch word) under the gashandle, make our own sandwich, make chocolatemilk if you don't want milk, prepare a homemade meal for guests etc. Still a fun video. Just amazing to this Dutchie. 🧡
As a kid growing up in The Netherlands, I had fallen in canals and other bodies of water so many times. Knowing how to swim is something I always took for granted, but looking back it probably saved my life. My son went for his C diploma at 6 years old and he had to do SO MUCh swimming. besides the diving and obstacle swimming (climbing ove rand diving under/through) and wrikken/watertrappelen/floating he had to swim 6 lanes uninterrupted, (in an full size pool) and 2 lanes with clothes on, and half a lane front crawl, half a lane backstroke. it was intense and I held my breath almost the entire time lol. I'm pretty sure I couldn't have done it myself! But I feel so safe knowing he can save himself when he falls into the water. We are very blessed that we have affordable swimming lessons here.
I had worked for two corporate companies in California and the treatment of employees was abysmal. They treated us like production unit, a machine to make money, not much like humans. 10days of vacation, no sick days, if we worked less than 10hours a day they start complaining and punished us by more work so we run behind on projects and had to work even harder. And these were managerial positions. No bonus, nothing but constant anxiety from fear of losing the job (and insurance) any day. Utterly stressful and toxic environment. And these were ridiculously rich corporates. Our cafeteria looked like dumpster, the chairs were dangerous to sit on and the tables were wiggly. Absolutely zero interest in workers wellbeing. They ruined many people’s mental health and then presented a benefit- company pays for a shrink. It’s like you have to experience it to believe it. I am moving to Europe this month I am so happy.
BTW, nobody attack you - it were "making" a comment and though on your comment and thoughs. I am glad you moved bc you are just one of those ppl who can complained/comments/thought this and that... but would not want; nor can handle others points. Perhaps you dont even think certain person should make comment that's why you think it an attack agains yours thoughts.
Idn what neighbourhood you lived in USA that need bullet proof backpack -first time i hear about it. You have a choice to move away to another city. And, you have a choice to vote, demand , ask the schoolboads to build/have a "metal detective " at all schools in your neighborhood. The reason these school districts in most librals county don't want metal detective because they don't want parents think and freak out: OMG this must be a "bad" neighbourhood that's why their schools have metal detective!!! So they rather dont have for that reason instead consider for students safety first. The dont wand their school "consider " as a school in "unsafe area" - so if new parents who want to move into their school district will not reconsider not too.
In states, the gov has program call Medicaid which give children free medical svc for low income or single mom. If a couple earn income enough and can get hlth ins through the company they working then it is their responsibility to buy ins 4 their child; if you feel you can not afford then dont plan to have kids intead have kids and want somebody else or blame and dependent on the gov to take care.
The battery using in EV car are made in china and China own 80% of the material -which China bought from "SLAVERY LABOR" in Africa, even child being forced to work. And you always claim you are condemn humanity crisis . lol
I am thankful you are not practice laws nor being prosecutor in the states - Keep Staying Where u're at - Keep believe you are smart instead just a clown.
Work hard and build your secure future, not to buy more, thats consider your personal habits. And it seems as you built fears for yourself and spreading fears to scare others. All talking nonsense .

Feels like Dutch women are the only serious in the globe. The have the intelligence to understand that in a capitalist society with equal rights, they should be strong and independent.
The reaaons roads are bad in suburbs because they literally cannot afford them. Sprawling out suburbs and banning buildings more than 1/2 stories, means much longer runs for roads and pipes, needs way more of them.
The second ammendment is misconstrued. It is designed to be just like in Switzerland, but they dropped the purpose of the ammendment which was having the citizens to defend the government if needs be.
Two Aussie girls with foreign last names, had never met before they shared Law classes together at university here in Australia. They joked that when they graduated they would set up a law firm together. Apenis & Siemen. Kim Siemen, low key embarrassing, but poor Anita Apenis!
