Great tutorial thank you! I have been challenged to rewrite some of our bands material in a Ska style. I have no idea what I'm doing so am starting with researching the rhythm. Looks like I'm in the right place:)
Good point, about how you can get the sound maybe without taking the reso head off. I once put packing foam over the rack toms and they sounded like they didn't have a reso side head. I think even Neil Peart stop removing the reso heads..
I reckon you probably don’t have to be a top musician to play reggae (not that you aren’t 😃) but I do think you have to have a very capable drummer. It’s all in the drums - the syncopations, off beats, counter beats, you name it. The guy playing in The Gladiators/ The Congos last night was brilliant. And what a sound!
So that’s how it’s done! I came here especially to find the answer to that question: how do they get that fab “tin can” drum sound - and now I know. Thanks!
