Leere deinen Geist.
Three of the greatest lines in boxing in my opinion are: “I shook up the world” “And down goes Frazier” “And that’s the story from Miami Beach tonight”. Classics!👍
2nd half of the third round Ali got hit with some absolute bombs and shook them off like they were nothing. Those would have knocked out over 90% of heavyweights right there. That is why he was the greatest of all time in his prime. Besides the absolutely impeccable speed, quckness, footwork and agility to make others look silly, he could take a howitzer of a punch and just keep going.
Every time I watch videos of Ali in his prime, I'm constantly amazed, saying to the video screen, "Nobody can hit him!!" I don't think anyone could have beaten him in his prime. Later, he wasn't as fast but he was super ring-smart...and he was still faster (and smarter) than George F in Zaire...as George readily admits.
Are you kidding! There’s no way in god’s planet that Clay won this fight. Listen knocked him constantly in every round except maybe Round 3 which I thought was a tie. He even played rope-a-dope with Clay in Round 2, lol.
I missed this live fight because of television set was only affordable price of those in higher grade of mine workers and it was not easy to own by our parents. Thanks be to GOD am 60years old and have a better life until today have watched this flash back film and very interesting to see and bring memories of those years. Years.
After Liston beat Patterson so easily a friend told me that a young fighter was coming up that will be the greatest heavyweight ever and his name is Cassius Clay. That’s before the Clay Listen fight.
The rematch of Clay - Liston was in Lewiston, Maine. In the week leading up to the fight, the boxers training sessions were open to about 50 spectators. They were free, but you still had to have a ticket. Since my father worked security at the Lewiston Arena, (that's what it was called at the time),, for local hockey games, and certain events there, he got 3 tickets. He took me and my brother to the Auburn Armory to watch Clay(Ali) jump rope, shadow box, and throw a medicine ball around. I was 6 years old, and didn't know much about what was going on, but I can still close my eyes and see it. My father was at the fight, I was home listening to the radio. One of the most iconic sports images of all time was taken that night.
Ali really was light on his feet, which makes it difficult to land punches on an opponent who dances around like he did, and than he'd move in chain lightening fast with those punches, and thus why the saying: "Fly like a butterfly, sting like a Bee," which was Ali.
If you have seen Ali's bouts before this one....he was of course very good already, yet against Liston he simply stepped up the level , seemingly effortlessly. Unique combination of talent, skills, strength, intelligence and willpower.
Obviously a great fighter for his time and a great of the sport but people who say he would beat the elite post 90s heavyweights I think are foolish. He would lose pretty easily.
World Champions aren't that easy to hit or else they wouldn't be Champions, but I don't think Ali could withstand the punches by figters like Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, but Ali was a great boxer regardless and so wasn't Sonny Liston, Rocky Marciano, George Foreman and a few others, but none of them could step into a UFC ring and win.
