I would have demanded a new room on a higher floor, I presume you didn't ask for the basement? I have seen some positive reviews recently and I think its pretty much potluck as to whether you get a decent room or a horrible one.
Most folks do that, but there is a sharp upcharge for a room out of the basement, it's around twice the price. Then you are dealing with the gulls The default room is the basement with no WIFI and no cell service.
Great review of the Maple Park apartments. Would certainly stay there rather than the Grand Hotel in Scarborough!! I agree with with you about tipping . I have also found, like you, that the the poorest people are the must friendly and genuine (usually).

Unfortunately, my granddaughter had a very difficult and traumatic event at this Hotel (with excessive dark “bureaucracy”). A beautiful bedroom with a copper bath was discovered on the fourth floor of this Hotel. The bathroom had a terrible smell of human waste and upon complaining the woman told us that the Fosse septic tank was completely blocked. The woman who sold us the room told us that the Hotel had completely emptied the septic tank a year before, which turned out to be false! At the official reception point we discovered that the septic tank had not been emptied since 1987 and this is the reason for the drain to be disgusting in the bathroom.
It's actually more interesting because international brands do have a market there, so it shows you how much lower the price could be in other countries (Assuming they are imports)
That's a very simplistic view of things. If the British didn't 'steal' these items, they would have been lost or sold ages ago. At least this way, they still exist and are still in one piece

Because they aren't there to 'make a few bucks'. The security work for the pyramids and they purposely lead tourists into back corners and demand money. Their job is security, they are not salespeople as you insinuate
I think it is a little more expensive in Gamarra but likely the same if you buy in the streets in la mesa redonda in Lima. That's where I buy my Lacoste shirt for 10 soles. As for food Peru is not that cheap anymore . I was there last April you can still get a menu for 12-15 soles but in a regular restaurant it is almost the same price as in Canada. When I visited Peru for the first time in 2018, everything was 3 times cheaper. I like markets and this market in Indonesia is really cool. Thanks for showing 👍
No tenemos muchas latas de comida porque en Peru se come fresco y tambien el pan que dura mucho o embasado es mas caro porque todo lo que tiene preservantes es mas caro, si compras pan fresco todos los dias es mas barato, es raro si, pero en Peru lo embasado normalmente es mas caro.

Weirdly, in Asia, 7kg is quite popular! They don't weigh the carry ons, at least, it's very very rare in my experience! BUT, one exception:... if you're going to the checkin desk and start weighting checked luggage, they will use that as a way to try and weigh everything you have.
