My name is Vics and I am a 3rd year medical student bringing authenticity, relatability, and transparency on my journey. I hail from the South Side of Chicago, so be prepared to see me repping my hood at all times☺️
On my channel I will take you through the many years of being a pre-medical student, MCAT retakes, medical school application cycles, post-baccalaureate programs and FINALLY crossing over to the other side of being a medical student!😅
I am taking you WITH me, so let's do this together! Welcome to Made it to Medicine with Vics. Let's do this thang!💕☺️
Almost no one in my family believes I can earn a Bachelor's Degree. My older sister and brother don't even want me to! But I still believe I can achieve it, so I keep studying. That`s what makes me great!
Yasssss! Many blessings on the rotation. Please let me know how it goes!! I literally LOVED my rotation. Everything but gyne onc bc that was just very sad and hands off for students. We couldn’t even take patient history. Just be a fly on the wall😵💫
Its okay queen....You will go back to your usual self when you graduate. I was on anti depressants for 4 years while in medical school. I just came off it 2 years ago after I graduated. I am back to my normal self...but I am a lot calmer and I am now very gentle...
You`re right Vics.Being relaxed and happy is essential for achieving good study results. Overworking and sacrificing breaks can lead to physical and mental health decline.👏👏
I got a 495 on my mcat😭😭😭feeling sort of discouraged but I knew that I hadn’t studied enough. Do you think I should take it again or should I try to apply this year?
Hi there! I think it’s worth talking to some admissions offices to get their input. I know of people who got accepted with that score and also each year it gets more and more competitive. Score is just one component though, volunteering, clinical hours, LOR, GPA, and character mean something too!
@@MadeittoMedicineokay thank you. I’m meeting with an advisor today. I wish I would’ve studied more because I don’t know if I can retake it. By the time I got the last section, I was mentally drained.
@@courtneyjohnson5529 what was your preparation like? had you taken practice exams under exam-like conditions? yea, the process is honestly mentally exhausting, trust me i feel you
@@MadeittoMedicinehonestly I only studied a few days because I picked up so many shifts at work. I went to reschedule and there was no availability near me for the august or September so I just sat for it. I did one full length practice test but I took a few breaks. I should’ve waited to take it.
@@courtneyjohnson5529 a 495 off a couple days of studying, baby you can KILL that exam if it comes to retaking. like you should easily score 510+ be proud of yourself and try not to beat yourself up. congrats on sitting!
Keeping a daily agenda(high performance planner) keeps me focused on my goals dreams and offerings🎉🎉🎉🎉 scheduling off time, reviewing every monthly cycle/seasonal what I am grateful for or what have I learned
THIIIIIS!!! reviewing said list and totally heavy on what youre grateful for! I dont read my journal enough or write as often as I used to. been working to get back into it
Love the snake plant🎉i love family med❤ hope you enjoy each of your clinical rotations before your medschool graduation.its the best moments to hands on learn.
Funny, bc that’s what everyone says! I feel surgery is gonna be hardest due to the hours. Like ima have to be at the hospital at 5am meaning 330am wake up time. I’m scared 🤧🥴
@3:06-3:19 you totally can go back find that doc and ask her internal medicine doubts and have her/him as your mentor to grow..maybe even get an LOR from them next year.definately you learned from that team! You go girl
I write down the negative feedback and create a to do list to explore new ways of learning those topics, often after feedback I take it to my mentor or a close friend and we bounce some ideas to explore.
Honestly, I wish the feedback on improving were more specific. Saying increase fund of knowledge is too vague. Like in what area? In what way? I think that’s easier to improve upon
What is "on time"? I'm learning to love, look forward to, and lean in to "In God's Timing" It was the let's get into it...AFTER you click that like and subscribe. Period. Looooove it re:evaluation! Pop your stuff! An important part of their care team....dedicated!! Put the good stuff on it! One thing about you, you gone ask and advocate. I loooove this for you! SHOOT YOUR SHOT. Whew chile. I tell my doctor to NOT talk to me about what she's doing! It freaks me out. Just do what you gone do. Yaaaas best is acknowledged! I have to work in silence!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listen! Bc why do we put ourselves in a box? Like truly God’s timing IS perfect timing! lol I’m happy you communicate with your doctor how you want the visit to go. Important for providers to listen to their patients since we all have varying needs
I am also really grateful for each angel who cared for and looked over for my parents care when I was at work or in class or studying and filled in the gap of care for me..
I am thankful for being available to advocate for my parents medical care. I am grateful for all I learned from those moments. I am grateful for seeing the reality i was blind to as a medical student. I am also grateful for my unique experience while i was with vulnerable populations to see how far non profit donations really reach medical care to those populations and what hands of charity actually reach!
1) Therapy helps me stay focused in a healthy way (and amount). 2) I find it difficult to advocate for myself, but I recognize that it's a skill that needs to be exercised.
what helps me stay focused is why did I ever start in the first place....the inner teenagers stary eyed dream..( which gets updated as my deeper why)
what helps me to stay focused on my current goals?Remembering "why" i started? the inner teenagers original ideal dream...and the why gets deeper... as life teaches me
Prayerfully so bc this culture is not good for anyone’s mental health, let alone first gen!! I hope you’re well and gearing up for an amazing MCAT day!
