We're Hayden Hillier-Smith and Jordan Orme, and we realised that with the explosion of the internet, video editing is in our lives more than we realise...and with "RU-vidr" or “Filmmaker” being the top job kids want today, the demand for editors will only escalate.
Editing now is like what coding was during the DotCom era: just like everyone needed a website, soon everyone will need an editor.
As a growing youtuber and editor, let me say Dodford is BY FAR the best Patreon follow around. Him, James Jani, Lemmino and Melodysheep are my RU-vid Mt. Rushmore rn.
So, speaking as an illustrator, doing multiple takes makes a lot of sense. When painting a painting or large, finished piece, I will do as many, smaller, simpler drawings/ideas to choose from. It’s just logic
i think the use of real archival footage and ai generated elements in a documentary together is dangerous and blurs the line of what is real. reconstructions in a documentary are usually very clearly presented as non-archival and there are usually disclaimers saying as much as well.
I've been watching RU-vid on TV since I found out about RU-vid 😂. I had a pc hooked up to my TV back in the day. Had a wireless mouse and keyboard on my couch. I remember watching old avgn and top gear clips. Good times. Hulu was free back then, too.
Hi - Iam just starting out ... would it possible for anyone to clarify how he managed to get all those footages from yt or otherwise without violating copyrights? this is a genuine questiod dears .. appreciate the help ...
The no cut approach is one of my favorite moves. It is the kind of thing that when pointed out to less critical eyes, people can no longer unsee the lack of cutting. John Huston used this technique as well as a way to have more control over the narrative.
ya got a good point lads the last 70 ish vids ive built are all created for tv viewing,i try to take people on the adventure with us it feels more real to watch the grandeur of the environment we explore on a big screen im kinda loving it just hope more people discover these films one day too
This movie was garbage. I don't care what anybody says. Boring. No material besides the baseless violence with no clear lines or even a difference between the forces. No colored arm bands, just multicam vs multicam? You can't tell between the two flag patches while in a gunfight. Fkn stupid. Use a gun truck to execute POW's but not to suppress and take the building? Tank on the ground but use an Apache to fly extremely low and slow (suicidal target) like shooting fish in a barrel for an RPG. This movie seemed like it had no military advisor and instead they watched multiplayer matches of BF4. The cinematography carried no weight because the story carried no weight because there was none. Also the music choice was off-putting at best. Congrats, you had everything you needed but decided to make the movie without any of it anyways. Great editing👌
I think it's one of the very few times i watched a youtube video actually taking notes as in a real lesson. Thanks a lot for this interview, i loved the schemes visually explaining what they were describing!
I found this very informative regarding the most basic aspect of editing. Keeping the viewers interest. If retention drops then that's the point interest is waning a little. (You expect to drop a little but if the curve is down trending before the end of the video it's too high). I'm just thinking of how to apply this to Live streaming as well. - The content still needs to be planned to be interesting, whether it be stories or clippings of articles or just chit chat with the chat
What an amazing interview! Super insightful into their process and editing philosophy, and most of it is actually applicable for other filmmakers. I'm curious what he means by "don't telegraph a scare." If you take that to the extreme, it would seem to suggest that every scare should be a jump-scare, but that's clearly not the case in his work. (Even many jump-scares include a small build-up, like a character reaction or a quiet sound or a subtle movement.) Did he go into any more detail?
You cannot 'not cut' unless the director and cinematographer know how to actually do their job. All this theory is how you used to get taught to make films. But since most not are digitally trained they edit like a kid with ADHD. This iis because actors cannot remember lines, directors have no clear vision and cinematographers make mistakes. I love this film as it is classical slow film... but you need clean images to make it.
Never telegraph a scare? Don't some of the best directors, telegraph scares in their films? Friedkin did, Blatty did. If you don't telegraph at all, then IMO most scares these days come across as loud annoying jump scares instead of something subtle and truly frightening. Nice interview BTW! Hope Mike shoots his Exorcist movie on film, older film stock, with a similar natural look to the first and third Exorcist films. None of that teal and yellow color grading and no CGI... In fact, how about a new Exorcist film set either in the 70's again, or in the 90's? Might be interesting angle to take.
This was a leftist wet dream got to find it funny that they use gun tuber personas and Boogaloo boys persona and or former military( of which in reality are almost always very based) for the side that is trying to overthrow and kill a three-term dictator president that has a striking resemblance to Trump's personality and they did that because there's not anyone really on the left side that fit those type of descriptions I found that quite hilarious and really took me out of the movie
I just feel like the people in these interactions in real life would see there time as more of a commodity and wouldn't take so fucking long. Can we have movies with real not Hollywood emotions please.
The teenage girl character is so loosely based and irritating. That classic age old pushing the person off from getting shot and remain standing to get the bullet is so annoying. We have passed that kind of acting, make it believable at least😅
