This truly was a fun experience! The VIBE was LIT and I loved the energy that was felt on that day! It's definetly one of my favorite battles of all time!
1. They are kids , so let’s not break their ego. 2. The director and I went to undergrad together. Good guy, need some things to work in terms of directing an ensemble. Now the ugly…. 3. These kids are not producing characteristic sounds of their 4. It’s not really dope footage, but ok… 5. 1st song….tempo not in tact. Trombone hella flat (fundamentals). I agree the percussion too damn loud. Why??? 6. Just you play soft, it does not mean you play weak. They air will always be fast 7. Again, tempo issues. 8. Director, you dont have to clap the entire song. 9. Trumpets aren’t slaw, they just may not be there mechanically and fundamentally. 10. Disagree you don’t build endurance by “pushing” folk can’t throw buzz words with no context. 11. Umm this is a rehearsal so I’m not expecting to hear X band. 12. “Open up” can mean a lot of things….these kids need private lessons so they can have command over their instrument. 13. That trumpet that squeaked a high note….again poor fundamentals…. 14. Seems like the sections they are fighting against each other. 15. 🗑️
Interesting scoring system. I’ll watch some of your other videos to see how you do your scoring scale. Thanks for the mention. I’ll be putting my band stuff on my HBCU culture channel this upcoming season.
Thanks for the tip. Sorry for the inconvenience though; check out my reaction to the 5th quarter between these bands. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H7C4cvrb1QM.htmlsi=XGBfhiE9rQHiNF95
Jackson moving over like that was a great moment and move. Jackson moved across from Southern like NOASB moved next to MMB in the Summer battle. I think both were clever moves. ALL bands should be across from SU, instead of in the corners. Being in the corner is why a lot of people hate Southern home games.
I think Simmons at Texas Southern wanted to do it as well. But they declined that move. I’ll explain it when I react to the Southern vs. Texas Southern 5th Quarter.
I wanted to react to A1 Media because since I reacted to the Division 2/NAIA Bands’ videos by the same creator, I was like “Why not do the same for the Division 1 Bands’ videos”.
ok so after hearing your review i had to comment. Both bands did great. Both bands had few flaws. I must admit this JSU and A&T both have wonderful band programs. JSU being a Swac band got hit with something they are not use too. Ok here's my take on it. JSU showed up for a football game and A&T came to a band competition. Clearly that was difference between these two performances. A&T brought more to the table than just marching and dancing. A&T brought its musicianship auxiliary showmanship to the field. They showed you multiple styles of marching. They even included a drum feature; golden delights presented a solo feature along with their outstanding performance. Their show was colorful and entertaining. Not taking away from JSU but they didnt bring all of that. JSU sounded really good and danced well and they did a complex drill. But to be at competition A&T brought the entire package. A&T owns the field especially when its comes to performances like this. JSU's performance was for a football game and clearly that's why A&T was announced as 2024 National Band of the Year. As for me this was not one of their better shows but it was enough to win Band of the Year so that in itselfs says a lot about the Program. A&T kinda started that Theme show im surprised this particular show didnt have a theme. But back in 2009 A&T perform their Usher them fieldshow at the Honda battle of bands i had to include this clip b/c yeah....thats how you do it!!! AGGIE PRIDE!!! JSU band members know why they lost this competition...its the fans who don't understand what happen. A&T came to a band competition and JSU was performing for a football game. Thats the difference between the two shows. Still two great shows one winner...congratulations to the AGGIES.
I understand that JSU had minor flaws in their show just as A&T had in their show as well. I just felt that JSU had more energy and was more entertaining. I know they’re a SWAC Band but that along with them not having a flag team or majorettes is NOT an excuse for the judges to give them an L like that. Not saying A&T’s show was bad (in any way, shape, or form); it’s just that JSU had the more entertaining show in my opinion. Even K.B. Said that JSU was more entertaining than A&T. They did announce the winners. It was just cut from the video. That’s why Jackson State and North Carolina A&T went one more round after that. You would’ve had to be there in person to hear who the winners were. Also after they cranked on each other, the announcer literally said that the judges were gonna take 30 points from the next band that plays after A&T stopped.
They should rename their band “Fat Valley St! Half of their band haven’t missed to many meals, including their soloist!!!! What diet they on? Jenny J? Or Jenny C.?
