Didn’t play doom until I was 24 (I’m 26 now) never too late to enjoy one of the best games of all time. And yes, it still is. Truly legendary and I hope my kids get to experience the same feeling I felt when I first played… even if I was an adult when I first tried it lmao
My first title of the series was Metal Slug 3 on iOS and then I tried Metal Slug Touch still on iOS, a title where you tilt and go on with your good old vehicle in a bunch of levels and that's it, but back then it was my favourite thing. And then thanks to emulators and PSP I tried all the main titles and the three bigger spin-offs, Mission 1 and 2 and Metal Slug Advance. A great series overall with great OSTs, each game's OST, I swear, and nice gameplay that just lets you kill some time with fun humour, splendid animations and great pixel art, a must for true gamers, even for those who are used to today's 3D graphics
I remember the „Doom 3“ release and how hyped everyone was. For the German-speaking audience, however, it was not really a surprise who the bad guy is, as „Dr. Betrüger“ literally means „Dr. Traitor“. Then again, „Doom“ was never one for the subtle tones.
I think one of the things doom 2016 did that was most faithful to the original is how well optimized it was. 1080p 60fps with med-high settings on a gtx 1050ti was crazy. Also, only a minor detail but Phobos and Deimos are pronounced with the -os sounding like dose. Great video!
In the UK, we have a chain of Arcades named "Arcade Club," the closest one to me held a DOOM tourny a few years back. Romero was a special guest there, and after a history lesson on how DOOM came to be, we had a few matches with him. He pwn3d us all of course, but I got to play DOOM with the actual John Romero. I'll never forget that day.

Love the fact that you made 87 episodic, almost one hour long videos, got barely any views, didn't give up, had the courage to rebrand the channel and make longform documentaries and now you're rising to great heights. Congratulations on that. The Doom two-parter and the Metal Slug essays are really good.
It was a cult classic and a must have in any arcade saloon on Poland in the 90s. God how many coins i have put in machine and not spend on icecream i cant count haha love this series.
Dude I remember at least three places where metal slug was playable as a kid. The arcade had metal slug 6. The park had metal slug 2. And a burger joint had one as well but I forgot which one. I think the laundromat had another. Good times
cant forget that it also greatly contributed as inspiration for many flashgames, things like commando from miniclip, intrusion1 and 2, broforce, alien hominid and others! truly some gems!
I've always held Final Fantasy 6 and Metal Slug as the epitome of artistic vision. The pixel art is so gorgeous, I truly believe we'll never see another game that so perfects the limitations of it's medium again. I would honestly call other masterpieces like Final Fantasy 7 comparatively 'ugly'. Sure, it was good for it's time, but the age clearly shows on it. 3D can be done so much better nowadays, some compromises had to be made to the vision of it. Metal Slug... you couldn't fit any more pixels into those sprites, they're as detailed as the resolution allows, they're as fluid as the frames allow for, it's almost beautiful because of it's limits instead of in spite of it. Games try to emulate the retro/pixel aesthetic and don't come close to Metal Slug's level. Metal Slug truly is an anomaly, I wish it got more recognition.
