Sounds like it needs a tune up. When it misfires like that then that means it needs a tune up. With a decline of acceleration, that’s another sign it needs a tune up.
It had some nasty vacuum leaks cause all the lines were cracking and falling apart. Friend told me it would periodically pop up with system too lean codes, then they’d go away, then come back again. He’s long since sold the vehicle off cause it was also beginning to have transmission problems.
Wow 🤩 That sounds like a Lexus GS350 F Sport or any type of Toyota/ Lexus V6. I know that a couple V6 cars don’t sound like that But this Acura 100% sounds like a Lexus V6!!!
@@Zioni21 I would hope so, because my 3.2 swapped 6-6 accord would take this thing to gapplebees with my trunk full of my mobile mechanics tools. Even my 05 RL is faster.
@@japanwatchconnection I think that it looks pretty cool but if it's that bad I understand why we didn't get it. (I sat in a 2018 challenger once and the interior quality disgusted me because I drive an 18 year old audi)
It's like they were designing a 3 speed auto and then somebody realized at the last minute 'oh wait this is supposed to be a 4 speed' and just added a 4th gear on top of what was supposed to be a 3 speed.
The 5 speed in the 3rd gen is the same, 3rd is about 1:1 and 4th and 5th are overdrive. Can hit about 160 km/h in 3rd, the D3 button on the shifter keeps you in non-overdrive gears, can be handy for passing on the highway cause it kicks down faster (and before you start trying to pass) than putting your foot to the floor in 5th.
@@NitroDonkey117 I picked up a 3rd gen for $1200 right after I totaled my old 05 accord hybrid, just in needing of a ride quick while insurance was going through its course. I actually really enjoyed it, and still have it to this day. I got a 03 accord v6-6speed with the insurance when it came through, and I still miss my hybrid. But as far as the ody goes, that thing is awesome. I'd take it over a ridgeline anyday. Much better capabilites for hauling stuff when you put the rear seats down and take out the middle row. It's a great van! And I used to think I'd be caught dead in a minivan. All I could ask for more out of it, is it be awd.
@@RikuKawai the 5-speed transmission is programmed to short shift at 160 km/h, if you keep it in manual mode - it will go all the up to almost 180 (at least my B7WA does).
Normal oil pressure and battery voltage. Vehicle ran smooth as butter. It’s just the beginning of the GM 4L30E transmission failing. Those are not known for being a good transmission. I have an Isuzu Rodeo, which is the same vehicle as this Honda Passport, and the same happened to me. Only difference is this was just slipping. Mine started slipping, then it lost all forward gears and had to be rebuilt.
Yeah… it’s not particularly fast. Decent engine, but seriously underpowered. It’s a friend of mine’s truck, and we decided to be Hoonigans that day lol.
Possibly because the engine isn't fully warmed up. Based on the position of the needle on the temp gauge, it looks like 140-150°F. Could be a stuck open thermostat causing that. It could also just be the throttle cable is out of adjustment or the floor mat is preventing the pedal from going fully down.
It slammed hard when going from 1st to 2nd, and always does it pulling away from a stop. I was just being facetious by saying “transmission failure.” Given how long it’s been happening, according to my friend who owns the vehicle, which has been for the year and a half since he bought it, I think it’s on it’s way out. That, and it’s a GM sourced 4L30e transmission. 191k miles is impressive for one, nonetheless.
@@tinuthomas531 The vacuum lines on it were all cracked, so it tripped P0171 and P0174 here. The codes would periodically come and go. Also, the transmission was slipping occasionally on it. Changed the fluid and filter, and while the fluid was still red, it had a lot of shiny metal bits in it. About 3 weeks after this video, my friend got rid of it.
@@spenserchalkley7013 yup that would make sense. The autos on these get so clunky and slow over time, but even our 03 with 270k didn’t drive that bad after all these years lol. The 5 speed is quite peppy though, it made it feel like a whole other car. I used to have an issue with vacuum on my old 03 but it was probably because I had a short ram intake
@@tinuthomas531 yeah, the 02-06 automatics were rather weak. I’m honestly surprised this auto made it over 160k miles, when I usually see them go between 100k and 120k. This generation of Camry was pretty poor in overall quality both mechanically and with the interior, but sometimes you can get lucky with them and they’ll be fine. My preference is still with the old 90s Camrys. Slow and boring, but the 90s ones were a hell of a lot better made than these were.
@@spenserchalkley7013 really? I guess maybe I’m just more used to it, but I loved this gen of Camry. It’s so comfy and I found them to be pretty reliable and could take a beating, except they burned oil like crazy if you had the i4. I don’t really miss buying extra quarts every month or two for it, so im glad that’s over, but I do like the body style and the powertrain. I find it more similar to the 3rd gen Camry while the 4th gen reminds me more of the 6th gen. I’ve heard the 4th gens could actually shoot out a connecting rod because they were relatively weak. The 2AZ was definitely a strong engine but those pistons were poorly designed.
