This is similar to a Taiwanese dish called Oh Chien in Hokkien. It seems this dish has Southern Chinese origins since many comments also pointed out Teochew origins, which they called O-luah. As for the Thai people claiming its solely their dish… y’all gotta realize this dish is the result of many cultural influences and fusions, and that the Lao and Thai civilizations used to be one in the same a long time ago.
