When I tried doing this, I got horrible horrible wrinkles just lasting the shoe, especially when I pulled up the upper to place the heel counter. How do you prevent this?
I think the local flannels shop is by appointment only and I’m not sure how much a messenger bag and pair of wedding shoes would cost in there, come to think of it, I don’t think they sell womenswear at all, it’s mostly very expensive trainers and designer jackets, so the majority of women are directed to primark, which is next to river island, Deichmann, or Marks & Spencer. Office is not too bad, but the shoes which were once leather and mostly made in Spain are now mostly PVC and suedette. There’s Superdry Fatface & White Stuff, but none of them are particular welcoming or sell a great amount of shoes…I’d personally describe a lot of them as hostile, but it’s nice to see people keeping these skills alive…like the self sufficiency and sustenance skills of cooking, having the space to grow a home veg plot and make clothes, although it’s a seemingly romantic painting of a bygone age of valued attributes.
She looks genuinely pleased with the shoes. Reminds me of that documentary where all the Eskimo women were sitting round the table teaching the camera man how to use a traditional ulu Eskimo skiver knife to cut the seal skins with; it’s quite a primordial image.
Hi there 🌟 why not sign up to our free introduction course to get a feel for what our Online Course is like? www.icanmakeshoes.com/pages/free-introduction-course
Just what i was looking for ! Thank you very much! It would have been so awsome to have been thought about this in school! Imagine if we all knew how to make our own shoes, and so most people would have theirown distinct shoe style! Corporations working for the money insentive dont make inovation - curious people make inovation for the sake of creating, exploring and gifting interesting things to their comunity. Have a lovely day ❤
Hi, Katie from the team here 👋 Amanda did her footwear training in Sydney, Australia. It was when she moved to London that she realised it was really difficult to make shoes without all the machinery she was taught to use. She set out to develop a shoemaking process that makes the craft accessible for people to do from home and she’s been spreading the love of shoemaking ever since.
Aww. Years ago I bought a course from Sveta Kletina, I couldn't get through first lesson without taking a 3h nap in the middle. You seem to match my energy better. Your English is good, I can understand you clearly and your course is buy once not some damned subscribtion yet it costs the same. I love it. I might have a go at shoemaking again. Nice to find you. I'm kinda person who got hurt by 99 % of shoes that ever touched my feet. Yet I have many ideas how to improve the construction. But I need fundamentals first and you seem like a good teacher. One question, do you have source to make custom last? What discouraged me a lot is I got a shitty standard last that didn't match my for at all from sveta and get first lesson wasn't last adjustment, it was somewhere well far into to course. I felt like I don't want to waste my time making some silly shoes that won't fit me anyway. How do you solve that? Do you also sell very standard shoelasts?
Or seems like i can just use this milliput to shape it my way? Might be not bad idea. I might try that before I get the course and see if I can get a satisfying shape and durability.
Hi there 🌟 we sell standard shoe lasts but as you can see we're very passionate about teaching people how to amend this shape to accommodate for their desired fit. We sell a wide fit kit which comes with the materials needed for building up a last to adjust the width - or you can grab some milliput from somewhere like Amazon to follow the method in this video! Once you enrol in our Online Course, you'll also get access to our international suppliers list which may help you to find more of the customisation you're looking for 😊
You can find the detailed tutorial in my Online Course: www.icanmakebags.com/products/online-bag-making-course Or you can grab one of our kits which also comes with the tutorial: www.icanmakebags.com/collections/all-products/products/diy-shoulder-bag-kit
Of course! I already have a tutorial in my Online Course but I am happy to talk through the process here soon too! Here's a link to my course if you want to check it out 😊 www.icanmakeshoes.com/products/online-footwear-masterclass-course
I love your program and stock, but being in South Africa and our exchange rate the products are unaffordable. What a pity. Keep going with your program
