The Phillips Collection, America’s first museum of modern art, was founded in 1921. Located in the heart of the vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood, in Washington, DC, the museum is home to a growing, world-class collection of nearly 5,000 works of modern and contemporary art. Housed in Duncan Phillips’s family home and additions to it, the museum organizes internationally acclaimed exhibitions, offers lively programming, and conducts important scholarly research on the history of art. Phillips referred to the museum as an “experiment station,” and today it retains the founder’s personal stamp in a gathering of art that combines tradition and daring. One of the great pleasures of the Phillips is the unconventional way in which works by artists of different nationalities, periods, and styles coexist side-by-side in visual conversations within its galleries.

Why would you pay $20 to go to this off-the-mall spot when you can go to all of the Smithsonian art museums for free? So, for years I did not. $20 doesn’t come easy to me ever. But I made an exception today to see a special exhibition. Unfortunately, the museum people made iit intolerable even to view the entirety of the show. Needless to say, I won’t be going back
I don’t know who is currently governing this museum, but this was the worst museum experience I have ever had. $20 I really didn’t have to spend and was harassed the whole time. Horrible. It’s really too bad. The collection is magnificent. Just goes to show: a few ridiculous people in charge can ruin a fantastic thing.
Oh no! So sorry to hear you had a bad experience! We'd love to have your input on how to make your museum experience more positive. Send us an email at communications@phillipscollection.org if you'd be willing to share more with us.
Really enjoyed watching this. And, I love the title, “if you can’t work it out, work it in.” I didn’t know the context was about lighting in a photo. Thanks!
Great piece,it's true ,us artists can only have one of a kind babies .we can't repeated again.we can't copied our babies which are our paintings.we give birth so many times that the spiritual demand can't be done twice.this is a great artist,he paints from his heart
