Hello sir, I have the same problem to my derailleur hanger, but mine was fix (not replaceable) and im really worried because that is my only bike. I just want to ask if all the thread are the same size? And if not, I just want to ask if you know what is the thread size of Shimano Altus RD (rear derailleur). I already bought 10x1.0 size of helicoil just like yours and it's a little bit Loose Sorry for my grammar😅
@@marcraya2352 I believe they are all the same thread pitch, but can confirm 100%. Maybe a little loctite on the threads would help fasten it securely.
Thanks for checking it out the video! Lesson learned with the music , it was my first attempt at a RU-vid video, and thought it would okay… 🤷🤣 live and learn they say.. ..
The 90s steel frames are such a fantastic base to start with for your all around fun bike builds, they'll usually come in at 26 27 lbs with just a few minor updates & the ride quality experienced versus the 2 or 2 and a half bills spent is one of the best bargains you can get in cycling, sure, you need to put the work in & have the proper tools but the end result is a bad ass bike for half the cost of a Walmart bike, anyways great build, everything flows well together & i see you used the more supple Schwalbe over the Maxxis DTH 👍
There is a vintage Shimano sealed BB unit (maybe it's an "S" or "E" model, something other than "UN") that is intentionally backwards. I have no idea why, but I've seen a few entry level Treks and now a Gary Fisher, that had this BB as stock and they were threaded oppositely. It definitely caught me off guard as well. Maybe someday someone will explain this "feature".
Nice job. I enjoyed watching this video. It was almost like meditation, listening to the background music as well. I should really start repairing my bicycle instead of handing it over to the bike repair shop all the time, although, I need to do some work to my garage, so, I will feel more encouraged to do that… I have a question? Is your Gary Fisher frame Steel or Aluminium with Steel/Chromoly forks? I have a 96’ Gary Fisher Tassajara with an aluminium frame and steel forks. I was thinking about getting my frame and forks sandblasted and powder coated to look like new, until I found out the thread on my forks has corroded and worn down after the headset stuck to it, and it cannot be rethreaded. So, I tried looking for identical forks for 26” wheels but can’t find any Gary Fisher ones in the U.K. on eBay, apart from in the US but they do look a little worn due to wear and tear, and the cost of shipping them here, on top of respraying my bike perhaps isn’t worth it. I had my Tassajara since 96’ when I bought it new. That being said, I saw an ad for a Gary Fisher Wahoo in red, similar to yours which is in excellent condition for £90 ($112.10) but I have to pay £63 ($78.47) to have it delivered from the north of England to the south of England. But unlike my Tassajara it has a steel frame instead of aluminium.
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the build, these bikes are a joy to work on, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go! This model Gary Fisher had a chromoly frame and fork, it’s a bit on the heavy side,,, I’d guess around 28lbs. Sourcing them is difficult here in Canada too… there are becoming rather expensive to find one in decent shape.
Great work, enjoying watching this video. I like how you restore it, how many lubes and professional tools you use in work. I have Gary Fisher Wahoo 2007, but almost nothing left from original. Your bike still keep original soul.
Thank you so much! Having the right tools for the job definitely makes restoring these bikes more efficient and enjoyable! I mainly use Park Tool products and have had great luck with them!
Nice looking bike. I have the studded Cake Eaters and they are monsters! I recently went on a somewhat icy group ride and really had no issues. Thanks for the video. Cheers from New Brunswick.
Thank you! I find these tires are definitely confidence inspiring, they roll over everything without much grief; mine are non-studded, I can only imagine the grip you'd get with studs!
Try breaking a three inch tap off inside of something that is hanging from a crane. Ending up using a diamond drill bit then breaking that off. Let's just say I was glad it was the end of my shift and it was Ray shifts problem. They ended up having to break the tap into pieces and using yet another tap to retake the hole the die ended up on a table because it took them so long to fix the hole. I would usually turn the tap a little bit forward then backwards a little bit and every once in a while unscrew the whole thing, blast the hole out with air, and start it all over again
Solid bike I have Gros louis with sram sx wasnt from costco but entry level eagle groupset but these bikes are solid bikes. Also costco has them marked down from retailers. The louis 2 with sram drivetrain retailed for $2500. Also the Geometry is modern with a farily slack head angle. Cant beat the price for what you get.
wow excellent how-to assembly vid. Definitely considering getting the GL2 since it's all costco has left. Btw, I was reading the face book group - Louis Garneau Gros Louis Ontario Owners Group - and it seems quite a few people are saying the break rotors are super overtightened from the factory. It can be nearly impossible to remove all the bolts with the bolt stripping, or tool getting damaged. Might have to be drilled out in some cases too. Is this something you have noticed? kind of apprehensive to buy it after reading about this issue. ✌
Thanks so much, I appreciate it, It was a fun assembly! I would definitely recommend the GL3 or GL2.. it's a solid bike with exceptional value. I didn't notice the rotor bolts to be overtightened, but I guess I'll see when it's time to take it off. In any case, I wouldn't let that steer me away from buying the bike.. worst case you (or a bike shop) could drill them out, if need be. That being said you should get a lot of life out of the rotors before they need to be replaced. 🙂
@@TylerA3 Yes Shimano Deore CS-M5100 Cassette, Deore M5100 R derailleur, Deore SL-5100 Shifter. So far it is working great and no issues on some fun rides.
