Great boat, what design is she? Looks like Dutch boat? Have you slipped the boat and ultra-sounded the hull? I would not use any 'poly' fillers...learn to weld and cut/weld the repairs!!
She was sold as a 48ft, but she is actually a 50ft Suncoast Ketch. She was built in the Netherlands and yes she has been in a slip before and no she's never been ultrasounded.
The motor sounds real good. You guys did a fantastic job installing that. The motor will have its its longest life if you run it at 200 to 250 RPM above max torque. There should be a plate on the engine, or at least in the manuel, that says max torque at such and such RPM. My Cummins says Max torque at 1250 RPM.... so I cruise at 1450 on flat ground, 1500 in rolling hills. This gives the most complete fuel burn possible and is the most healthy for the motor. When requiring max power, increase that to 350 to 400 above max torque... when I climb a mountan I maintain 1600 RPM, 350 RPM above max torque. The equivalent to you would be pounching into waves.
A whole lotta cash is getting poured into that boat over the last couple of weeks.... huge improvements that should make her a moveable home ready for adventure.
You made it look easy. Nothing wrong with a Ford Lehman. Tough old motors used in tractors, trawlers and fishing boats for years. Parts are still available, and she will last a very very long time if you don't get sea water into her.
I just noticed your messaged I do apologize. I checked the video and the sound is good. There was a moment when I was having issues with it, but now it is fixed.
You’re my hero with balls of steel: - to first time solo sail with limited sailing experience - a 4x’ boat - a boat ur are not familiar with - sat on the hard for 8 yrs - no bilge pumps
