Discover the joy of creating your own stunning barn quilt with me, Cathy, your guide to this rewarding art form! Since retiring in 2019, I've been sharing my passion through classes and painting.
🏡 Barn quilts are no longer just for barns; they adorn sheds, porches, and homes. Each pattern has its own unique name, just like traditional cloth quilts.

Let's paint, learn, and find joy in the art of barn quilts. Have a wonderful day! 😊🎨
Thank you very much for showing us your work, thanks to you I am learning and I have not needed to go to any class to learn, your videos are enough, it is easy to understand, I have already done the hummingbird and Cathedral window 🙏👍
@@BarnQuiltsbyMountainVisions Yes, I learned from you and I hope you continue to post more videos so I can do it and it is a challenge for me. Thank you again for your teachings.
Hi 👋🏻 Your channel has been a godsend to me! I've done many quilts using your tutorials 😊 I use all kinds of paints (including the metallic craft paints) on mine and never have a problem as long as they are sealed well. Thank you... I wondered how you got the paint in those cute little bottles ❤
sounds like you have a good plan. im sure that all the folks out there will have some great barn quilt ideas Also just an idea if you find a particularly stunning barn quilt you are doing maybe you could put it on once in awhile glad you are back
Cathy! I lost you for a while! I’m so glad to see you again!😊 Your reason for changing posting schedule sounds really valid. I’m glad to just be a part of any of it. My old channel becoming a GreenStalker I took down and finding everyone has been a challenge!❤ Good to see you!
I do not teach classes any longer. If you are in the area around Cleveland County, the Cleveland County Arts Council hosts these classes once a quarter. A lady named Carol Hensley teaches them and everyone loves her. I do have several videos that I am going to get filmed this week for my channel. Thank you so much for your kind words. That means a lot to me.
I am using heat erasable pens and drawing the design onto the board. I have heard people use carbon paper to trace them but it is much easier just to draw it on the board.
Another great video!!!! I need to get rid of cable, but my husband would have a meltdown 🤣 I have learned so much from you and appreciate your lessons!
I used black exterior paint and a fine tip paint brush. You could also use a sharpie if it is one of those “Extreme Weather” sharpies. If it is going inside, you could use a plain black sharpie.
I asked in your last video about this very subject and then found these videos. I’m excited about this and look forward to watching your videos from now on! Thanks so much!
I just loved watching this. I love barn quilts and want to learn how to do them and yours is the first video I’ve watched. Thank you so much for sharing your talent and patterns. This is very kind of you. May I ask is there a video on what paints you use starting with priming and then the colors and do you use a favorite finish coat ? Thanks again! Blessings!!
Help me!! I bought the heat pens and gun that you have in the video. They worked great on one board, but not so much on one we were gridding out today. Does the primer have anything to do with the success of those pens? Thank you for your great videos and all your help!!
@@BarnQuiltsbyMountainVisions Yes, they were primered a week or so ago at the least. My husband used the red pen and it just didn't really 'disappear' like they did on a small BQ I had used them on (blue ink). I wouldn't use this board for a paying student in one of our classes, even if we re-primered it. It was just really frustrating as I love this concept.
Mary, I use MDO (Medium Density Overlay) that I get a lumber company to order for me. Lowe’s not Home Depot carry it. I always use exterior semi gloss paint. To get started, you could purchase the exterior sample paints at Home Depot and a piece of premium plywood (cabinet grade). It would need to be kept inside but it would get you started. I have a video on here about choosing your wood and paints that may help you. Thanks for watching.
Why do you use the spar urethane? Do the barn quilts have to have a sealant on them if they are outside, if you use exterior paints? New to barn quilts 😊
The water based Spar Urethane does not turn yellow when you put it on your barn quilts. I use exterior paints and put the sealer on because I like the finished look the sealer gives the colors. Also, it is just an added protection for the colors so they do not fade as quickly. Some folks do not use a sealer if they use exterior paint (all sample paint needs to be sealed.)
Thank you for sharing yourself and your gift with us! I raise monarch butterflies and want to do this pattern! Couldn’t even attempt this without your help 🥰
